I particularly like the not too rare threads where some aberrant individual actually breaks ranks with the herd and complains about a problem with a new Fender bass and they all pile in. There was one last week, where the poor guy got a really hard time and had to actually prove the bass was new (not second hand) before they would believe him. He had to explain why he wasn't at the herds immediate beck and call when they demanded more details about the alleged issues with HIS bass and the purchase process. Lame excuse- he had to sleep.
Contrast that with the broad, baseless statements we read at the mere mention of the G word in relation to basses.

Yes I did enjoy the four tones bass comments. Always wondered what the knobs on my bass, amp and pedals were for. Hmm- I wonder about the Beatles or Rolling Stones. Also lots more recorded Gibson basses in popular music than people realise.

Here are the pics of the (hopefully finish) cracks coming from the nut on my beater classic pro. The nut is totally held down by the strings only (I'm not home and don't have any glue). When the nut was off I tried to see if I could find a crack in the wood, I could not tell, not the greatest light, and no optics at my disposal for a closer look.

I'm hoping the cracks are from the nut itself stressing the finish. I will eventually glue it back down.

I have to admit part of me is worried the cracks are more related to how it was treated by the evidence on the headstock, but logic tells me the loose nut might have just stressed the finish.

What do you all think?

Other things, I can't quite get enough relief for buzz free .115 drop C, but I just did the adjustment, perhaps in a day or 2 it will settle in. In that regard the 2006 white Korean bolt on might have been the better choice since I don't have that problem with my 2006 goth. I can live with a little buzz to have the neck through, and that other guy is a sheister, still running the ad as a classic pro for $380 even after I called him out and he went down to $220. I think I ended up with the right bass at the right price from the right seller, even if it has been through some abuse. Call it a "rescue" rather than a minty misrepresentation. If I had the funds I would throw another $200 down and have both, but I don't and won't for a while.

And where can I get a silver top top hat "tone" knob on the super cheap or free? ;)View attachment 1189454

Other thing on forgot to mention in my TLDR post, the classic pro is a smidge longer than the bolt ons, it is a super tight fit to get it into the roadrunner rr1eb gig bag, so my recommendation of the rr1eb bag only applies to the bolt ons now.

I'm still using one of my rr1ebs with it for now, that case is a tank. It came with the older rectangle one. I have not put the case in storage yet, I might just start using that despite my boat living and small car situation.

Edit: the bass goes in the bag easier now :) perhaps having a peavey fury in it since I sold the bolt-burst made the bag shrink a tad because it wanted to get closer to the awesomeness of the pinstripe headstock, 5 wire pickup and titan tuners. That's some gravity there.

I really like my budget quiver, best bang for buck while my expensive stuff stays in the vault while I am living on the boat.

This classic pro is growing on me. Can't wait to play it with the band, we took this week off.

Buffy is my girlfriends, and she is trying to sell it, complete set, and also all of angel, pm me if interested :)

Strings are dean Markley nickelsteel, left over from some rockstar's tour, my friend is a tech and hooked me up. I keep soaking them in DNA and they still have some life left. .050-.110 set but with .115 instead of .110.

They are quite "scoopy", works good for SOAD, but the next strings I buy will probably be more SIT power steels in the same .050-.115 custom set from BSO, I won one from SIT on Facebook and after my initial dislike (hard to mount on the skinny tuning posts, and brittle tone before they break in), I found they were the perfect strings for my goth, and considering the buzz issue I'm having with the classic pro, the extra stiffness of the power steel might be the fix.

Hah, I own the Buffy DVD set myself, but thanks.

Cool on the strings. I'm using their Blue Steels right now. They seem to have stopped using silk wrappings. Fine with me. I never saw any use for them.

THE MOST IGNORANT REMARK! If you think that that's all there is in the bass world you shouldn't be playing bass.
One of my prof's was working a one of the car manufacturer's in the 70's, pretty sure engineering department. He said one of his bosses at the time said basically said "there's no more room for improvement, there's nothing more that can be done to cars in the future" (paraphrasing). But it's the same as saying there's only 3 tones possible for a bass, and worse contradicting yourself by saying the Stingray came along and took up the last "tone" spot.
