It is stupid question time, with regards to metaphors used to describe bass tones....... But with bass, I find it much harder to understand descriptors such as: farty, clank, nasal, chainsaw, etc. Can anyone school me on this?

Farty: What you get with a lot of woofer, lot of lows, pushed a little too hard. Or a lot. Often associated with smaller combo amps, or an Ampeg BR head, in a rock setting.
Clank: A metally sound that might be associated with stainless rounds, lots of treble and upper mids. Think roundwounds whacking into a metal pickup cover...
Nasal: Jaco wannabees playing back at the bridge, neck p'up at less gain than the bridge p'up. (See "Honk").
Chainsaw: Hmm. Overdriven with a lot of mids, producing a non-fuzz, non-diert kind of distortion. Overbearing, aggressive sounding. Motorhead, say, "Speedfreak" or "No Class"...

I believe, with fair certainty, that this product that you are trying to sell as a "1976 Thunderbird Korina" is actually a 1990's Thunderbird with a natural finish mahogany. Without viewing the serial number I cannot be certain the exact age but there are multiple tell-tale signs. Some major one are
1) The headstock is fairly smaller on the newer models
2) No holes in the body from the bridge cover, pickup rings, etc.
3) Placement of the input jack, 1976 had it under the controls
4) The placement of the front strap pin is incorrect, and there seems to be no hole where the strap pin should be.
5) Granted the hardware could have been changed, it is definitely not the right hardware

I am writing you this so if can be corrected before some, unsuspecting person, purchases this, and comes back angry after they find out that it is not correctly advertised"

Forgot to mention the small closed Grover tuners instead of the big clover tuners, and the obvious lack of chrome hardware...

I watched the Chris Catero reviews last night. First Classic Pro, then Vintage Pro. I like them both do that didn't help.

But something struck me in his comments.
Classic Pro - thinner wings and lighter weight than you may expect from a Thunderbird.
Vintage Pro - redo of the Vintage Thunderbird, hefty feel to it. Large head on it.

So different bodies? More weight??

??? I wait for the Club view ???

For some of us, realistic and cynical are synonyms...

I prefer "Skeptical". "Cynical" is too steep a grade for my inclination toward hopefulness. But I can dig it.

I run 'realistic' straight (no chaser), enjoy a certain amount of cynical humor (to a point), try my very best to be generally aware of the world around me, and realize that each persons point of view dynamically shapes the world around them. It's how we can all be exactly the same and totally different at the same time.

I also have a penchant for taking language pretty literally, and have an ear/eye for detail. It teeters on near-obsessive, but I know it so I let go a lot. We get a bit dark-humored around here, so cynical is in our ballpark.

Hey, quick one here, amidst our revelry- this just came to mind: Plan 9s original bass player, John Florence, is having some now-crisis-level chronic pain that's traveled, over many years, from lower back to hip. It's gotten very bad the last few years and has now become a kind of writhing, continual pain. He's on meds for it, but they are starting to interfere with his work (he's a computer guru), and feeding the family is coming into the enemy's crosshairs. He's also potentially playing bass as well as yours truly in the newly-reforming band, which might have been an entertaining conversation starter, but now of course that's also in doubt.

So I'm just writing to ask for some of that good Thunderbird Mojo to get sent out his way- he's going to a new doctor middle of Sept., and there's hope for relief- but till then any good vibes/prayers you can think out his way just might be a good thing.
