Thunderbird Club

Sounds more like a bad pot to me. If it is the bridge pickup, I have spare one, after putting in a Sixx pu .... Happy to send it to you if you need it

Wow, thank you. I won't know for a few days. And very much appreciated if it comes to that, of course I would pay you for it. But we'll cross that bridge if we get to that, I feel better now. Glad you're with us. You're made of the stuff that makes this club great.

Quick question to the group about strap button placement. I saw pictures of t birds with a second strap button on the back of the guitar. I am guessing that this done for stability? Anybody here use this method? If yes, why and does it work?

The top button, near the neck, or the lower/back of the bass button?

I put my upper around behind the neck, and the lower button goes to the back of the body, about halfway up-and at the edge of- the belly curve. That's just me though doing the lower button that way, not many folks do that- and I won't recommend it in general. I have reasons for doing it that way.

On the back. So two buttons for the strap to attach to. I was thinking it might help to hold the bass vertical, as t bird can feel like they are falling away from you at times.

I am looking for one Gibson TB Plus bass pickup. I am not looking for the soapbar type used on Thunderbirds. I am looking for the humbucking sized pickup found on the LP Standard or Money Bass. See the images below for an example. I only need one (bought one here on TB earlier this week) but if you have a pair let me know your price. Gold or Chrome will work fine. Doesn't matter what color. If you have any please let me know.

I want to replace the Bart setup that is in this bass:

Someone has one of those in the classifieds here, but can't copy the link cause my iPhone sucks. It's in parts and accessories.
Takeout, is the TB users name.

That bass is rumored to have belonged to Pete Comita of Cheap Trick, but he owned it after his time in CT. Any "celebrity" DNA or not, the 80's Cruise basses are fantastic basses.

Noc - you so need to install a set of triple shot pup rings on those LP size humbuckers!
I put them on a Franken-Bronco bass that I modded a while ago (with lipstick humbuckers) and they work great. They blend right in with the instrument and you can't even tell there's anything different looks wise. But OMG they open up the sound options. Each ring has two micro switches that lets you select series or parallel or neck single coil or bridge single coil for each pickup on the fly. They take the place of your stock trim rings. Check em out along with the YouTube clip at the link. The clip demos a guitar but they work equally well on bass and really come in handy if you're a pedal or overdrive guy.
Triple Shot Rings (Or How The Heck Did That Sound Emerge From My Guitar?)

Thanks GBass! I had never heard of this product. I will def take a look at it for my LP.

Thanks! I already purchased that one and was looking for a mate for it

I might get a Dimarzio X2N for the LP to mix things up a bit. Hamer used them in a lot of their basses to good effect. But until then the search for a TB+ continues.

I have the buttons on the neck heel on my Birds. IMO it helps with balance and places the Bird more in the position I prefer to play them.

I was reunited with my first bass the other day. Had to leave her on the other side of the country when I moved.

If it's one of those 16.4K DeepSIXX bridge pickups with a black wire, and if JJR58 won't be needing it - I would be very interested in taking it off your hands, as I need one of those to go with a matching neck pickup.
I Bought a set on EBay, but unfortunately I received two neck pickups...

No the one that sits on the shelf is the original one...
However something is rotten in the state of Denmark and Holland as I ordered those same DeepSixx pu's and also received two neck pickups. Promises for ever from the seller that he would correct, he offered a refund that never came, I filed a complaint but also came to nothing. So now my epi thunderbird has two DeepSixx neck pu's. I thought I had a unique combination there......

I didn't want to bring this up, but I may have a bum bridge p/up in the Epi. It is scratchy when dialed in. No issue with the neck p/up. Going to bring her back to SA. They actually have a good tech. He's going to go through at no charge. But I'm screwed if it's the pick up. Hoping it's a bad potentiometer. I love the bass, so IF, the pick up needs to be replaced............
This just started happening a few days ago.
When I say scratchy, the scratchy is heard whenever the bridge p/up is in use.
Probly just a bad solder joint or sup'm. Don't worry man... you're baby will be fine;)

Nice! I wish I could find a representative example of my first bass, much less my actual first bass. I can't even find pics of the Aria Diamond PJ I had. Glad you got your firstee back!
