Quick question to the group about strap button placement. I saw pictures of t birds with a second strap button on the back of the guitar. I am guessing that this done for stability? Anybody here use this method? If yes, why and does it work?
The Goth I had, had the button on the neck plate, which is considered to be "correct". The Epi TB IV I have now, came to me with the button on the upper horn (as on most 7enders, etc.), which I really prefer. When the strap was anchored at the neck plate, the bass always wanted tip away from me, making it uncomfortable, and making the fretboard hard to see. When anchored on the upper bout, it doesn't. It's my understanding that anchoring at the N/B joint, is supposed to help deter neck dive. The Goth wasn't neck-heavy, so that wasn't an issue. The Korean TB IV is crazy neck-heavy, but neck dive doesn't bother me. I'd far rather wrestle with neck-dive than wrestle with the body tilting away. Just my 2 cents worf;)

That green burst is beautiful!!! ... and the contouring at the neck/body joint... drooldrooldrool

Without getting too specific... is there a notable difference in pricing between bolt, set, and thru neck builds?

Also... the neck on that twelver looks absolutely luxurious! Do you recall, off the top o' yer head, what the width and thickness are at the nut?
1. Thanks!

2. Yes, quite a bit.

3. 1-7/8" wide and about .90 inch thick at the nut.

Love the neck heel area on the 12. Reminds me how Carvin does the neck-throughs. I really like that on my LB20. So smooth. I wonder if Gibson's isn't like that because of a flat surface for the strap pin?

Thanks. As to the strap pin being the cause of no contouring, IDK. Have they done it on anything else?

The strap button always went on the neck heel..

Except BiCens, horn mounted.

Carvin LB20 neck to body area. It’s like it’s one entire solid piece.

Really? Fender players are responsible for poor strap button placement? Bit of a stretch, me thinks. Maybe global warming but not that.

That's not what I said at all. If I had a dollar for everytime someone has said the strap button is in the 'wrong' place, ie the neck heel, I'd be able to buy myself a burger, chips and a beer or two.

You each chips with your burgers?! Around here we normally have French Fries :roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

Tongue firmly in cheek, I've had this conversation before with friends from the UK

...making the fretboard hard to see.
That's why there are dots on the SIDE of the neck. Big ones on mine (1/8")....and none on the face. So I don't look like a dork leaning over the fretboard since there's nothing to see there.

How weird. We have chips with fish or burgers or whatever and crisps -- cheese and onion, salt and vinegar, whatever with a beer in the pub.
We have crispers but that's a name brand, and aren't quite chips. We don't have cheese and onion, we do/did have sour cream & onion, we also have ketchup chips. But they're all in a bag. Fries are cooked and come with a burger.

As I was reading your post I was watching a video about the Gizmotron and not a word of a lie, the German guy said "... bag of chips..." while reading your post

Fergburger in Queenstown is reputedly the 'best' burger shop in the world. We didn't fancy queueing for an hour in the snow with drunks and arseholes to get one ... and then eat it on the street, in the snow. Devil Burger was an alternative recommendation and very well worth it if you are ever in the area.

The Christchurch earthquake broke the Marmite factory, causing the period of great tribulation known as Marmageddon. Don't slather it on like jam and it's great.

3. Use a cotton strap, or whatever other material that doesn’t easily slide.

Plus, you shouldn’t be looking at your fretboard when playing anyway.
Yes, yes... I know... but, I challenge you to find me somebody who doesn't at least occasionally do so. I was watching a Gov't Mule concert last night, in which Jorgen Carlsson stared at his fretboard most of the night, while Warren Haynes glanced back & forth at his all night long. I ain't sayin' it's "right"... but I ain't sayin' it's "wrong" either.

Also... no strap in the world would prevent the body from tilting away from a rear mounted anchor point... that is, unless you know of one that defies the laws of physics or gravity. I believe that is why some among us choose to run their straps in front of the upper rear bout (which I tried, but couldn't get used to).

HAH!!! GeezerDots! LOVE IT!!!:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

Part of the beauty of not having your instrument tilting away from you, is that you don't hafta lean over the fret board. Just a casual glance does the trick. Especially when learning or writing a new part... I'm lookin' at that fretboard. Once I got it down, I don't have to so much. Having the button on the upper bout, solves all my tilting problems, and is a non-issue for me. I'm not insane! I mean... if I had a vintage piece, I wouldn't go drillin' into it, but if there was already button on the horn... that's the one I'd be usin';)

Yeah, kind of is what you said. If you feel the need to be snarky about FSO players, own it. Please, don't respond. I'm done here. Enjoy.

"Marmageddon"??? That is PRICELESS!!!:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

For those of you who are unfamiliar... meet "Marmite"...

Marmite - Wikipedia

I'm sure Kat could give you much better intel on it... but from what I learned from a former Kiwi housemate... it's a multipurpose food product, used as a food and drink additive in a cornucopia of different ways. My personal experience with it, left me wanting more... (distance between it, and me:vomit:)! To me, it tastes like extremely concentrated wheat beer & salt. I remember not being able to get the taste out of my mouth with anything shy of gargling straight gasoline!
