It's more that it gets my blood up when people say about things that I like "this is crap" rather than "I don't like this."

I don't like SWR amps at all, but I don't think they're crap. Just not made to make the sounds I want to make.

My favorite bass tone I've gotten so far is actually from another friend's red knob Sunn Model T, though. So nasty.

I would love to hear a VBC-412. I've had the 810 long enough now, that it might be time to try something else. One of my fav cabs ever is the Mesa Powerhouse 212.

It's a good sounding cab.

Although not as aggressive as my Sunn 2x15. But maybe that's because there's a speaker mounted higher on the latter.

I can dig that. It’s like the difference between, “I don’t like it”, and “It’s a POS”. Years ago, I got into a heated debate with somebody who claimed that Stevie Ray Vaughan “sucked”. The offending party left the conversation with a thorough understanding of the difference between “I don’t like him”, and “He sux”.:bassist:

Exactly.

I'm not the biggest SRV fan (though I like listening to a little bit of his stuff at a time now and then), but he definitely doesn't suck.

That said, because of the type of EQ that Ampeg uses, which is very versatile and can get a lot of different good sounds, it's also easy to get a really bad sound out of an SVT or V4. Fender tone stacks can do less, and it's easy to disappear in the mix with them, but they're also harder to get a truly wretched sound on.

That’s one of the big changes in bass world during my time away from music. Used to be that... if you played bass, you used 10” & 15” speakers (with the occasional 18” getting in the mix). 12’s seem to be “where it’s at” these days. From everything I’ve been reading, it sounds like there’s a good reason for that. I’d like to mess around with a good 2x12...

The only thing I'd like more than my 2 x 12s would be four of them. Once upon a time 412s used to be everywhere and now you hardly see them. Whether by happy accident or design, the YBA200 and SVT212AV seem made for each other.

Agreed about SWR. I could never get a sound I liked from those.

I would imagine that a 4x12 bass cabinet would be a bastard to haul around. I personally would go for 2 - 2x12 cabs before I’d go with a 4x12
