Leo was cheap, or a minimalist. That's why only three neck screws on his Sting Ray. Why pay $0.10 more for stereo jacks if you didn't need them, which is what the specs said.

Enzo Ferrari refused to switch his race cars to the then newfangled disc brakes until TWO of his drivers died due to drum brake fade. Sometimes there's no accounting for production decisions.

Hell the bridges on Fender basses for the longest time were bent sheet metal and threaded rod for saddles. Stuff I can get and make at work for free.
If it wasn't for Henry Ford's son, he would have built the Model T until the day he died.

I just can't wait what with all this back-and-forth information. I ordered Thunder buckers 66s yesterday for my TV Silver Curebird / Thunderpigeon. Need something concrete to look forward to in life right now. Maybe a white VP next year assuming you all don't scoop them all up!

Ha!, exactly the reason the Epi is now in the shop getting an overhaul with Lollars, new wiring, pots, output jack....... Still going to have that VP. It is coming......

My bass rig is older than I am.

1982-85 Mesa D-180 or 1973/1974 Sunn Concert Lead through a 1969-1971 Sunn 2000S 2x15 cab.

As for basses, one of them is older than I am. The others are younger.

I emailed Yorkville asking for info just after I bought it. My head was made in May 2004. No idea how many owners it had before me but it has been very well looked after, looks immaculate and sounds even better. All up it was a steal for the price.

All my Fenders clones have those bridges, nothing wrong with them. Good enough for a '57, 59, or '65 P is good enough for me. 'Sustain' is highly overrated and entirely unnecessary for most bass playing that interests me.

I only have 3 things that are my age or older...... so far. My Acoustic 301 is early 70's, P-bass is 1962, and I have a 50th anniversary Strat (that's a double whammy, a 7ender AND a g*****) that's my birth year 96.

I totally get that. It's not about saving the day so much, but it's just fun and somewhat relaxing to have something going on that you dig. I love getting stuff to mod my bass with! Right?? Well, only as long as it's meaningful. But when it is, I'm enhancing my musical experience, and it's inspiring to play with a sound you really like. The EB-3 is a lot of good mojo for me right now, at a time when the music is requiring a lot of work, patience, and hopefulness. It's a lively yet dark, bouncy, funky tone, pretty aggressive but kind of buttery. It's killin' it for me! And the Blackbird is getting that 66s that @kat888 is browbeating me into getting, and I'm psyched for it. Gonna be a minute getting it realized, but gosh-darn-it-to-heck, yes!

So yeah, I get it.
