[Nocturnal]

The pickups in a Goth are not the same pickups as the Gibson TB pickups. The Epi's are a little longer (about 1/8" I think). A pickup ring might not be a perfect fit around the pickup hole, but I think you could mount them on there and it would be fine.

Nice! Does the inside of your case smell like vanilla ice cream? I got my TBird in December and it still has that scent, makes me hungry every time I open it.... You will become somewhat attached, I did. All my other basses are getting lonely.

Its strung with Dunlops. I need to change them.
My other bass is Fender P with flats. I'm not used to the string and feet noise of the rounds in the Bird.
I may restring with tapewounds or maybe even flats. Is that sacrilege on a Bird??!!
I'm mainly a blues/Classic rock player. I love that thump.

I love the deepness of this Thunderbird !!

I use D'Addario medium tapewounds because they have the right diameter, not too tight, and can be bright sounding when you want and are smooth and silent. They do thump nicely through the humbuckers.

A couple weeks back I posted to see what experience folks had using the Hipshot replacement specifically around the intonation problems I was having. I picked up a very lightly used on from lowendblues and installed it this morning. Almost out of the box the problems went away, needing very little set up to get it intoned. I can't really comment on the over tone improvements, but felt like I should close out on this.

Don't know if you T-Bird folks count these oddballs... the Gibson Thunder Series basses. This one is a 1987 five-string, in Ferrarri red w/black hardware. There probably aren't enough of them out there to warrant a club.

For the record, this is the growliest bass I own. Also the most conspicuous. So red you need a mullet to look right playing it.

After a bit more studying I decided rewire my Bicentennial to parallel the pickups. It involves disconnecting the series wire to the bridge pickup and grounding it, and then wiring the input jack to both the unused pot lugs. The tone is much more to my liking, crisp and full with better distinction from note to note on the E-string. Thanks to T-Bird'58 and Furious_Man77 for the info. I can't wait to bring it to band practice later this week !

Threw on the new pick guard courtesy LJVSK. I drilled it to counter sink the screws and rounded the edge. Looks great.

That's pretty much the equivilant of a "Studio" Thunderbird, I don't think a mullet goes hand in hand tho........

Nice. I love their philosophy, but especially with the Thunderbird, I need straps that stay in place. Their materials slide. I wish they could line the underside with something like cotton that won't slide.

I never heard it put that way, but yes, that's pretty much it - a studio t-bird. Always liked the looks of these things, and never understood why they didn't catch on. Maybe not Gibson-y enough? :what:

I paid a little more than market for it, but it was dead mint in original hardshell case. Even had hangtags and warranty papers.

I love the sound too... the tone is so opposite my beloved old mudbucker'd Kalamazoo (in the background) and the rest of my stable of modern active five-strings.
