Thunderbird Club

I already have a candidate picked out for my blackbird project.
I miss the goth after selling it, but after going to the classic, I don't know if I can go back to the squared off slab body. I really like the balance and belly cutout of the classic, and the neck heel.

Idea is gonna be to find a cheap classic, strip it down, paint in HD denim black, add emg tb-hz pups, grover tuners, upgrade bridge and pots, add one of larrys pg's, and possibly go with custom inlays.
I was planning a ric project, but my tone is definitely closer to what I want with the bird, and this will be a lot cheaper to do.

Cool. I'm learning as well.

I'm curious, are you taking lessons from a bass player or from a guy that plays guitar and can teach bass?

I don't know about Klondike, but my guy is a bass player. We talked about guitar players and bass, and he said it's just not the same. There's a lot of "feel" in playing bass, guitarists just don't get it.
I knew he was the guy for me right then.

I never met him before Thursday, and as I was waiting a kid comes out with who I though was her older brother (he looked about 13) then he started talking to her mom about her progress. He was her instructor!
I was praying he wasn't the bass instructor too, then my guy came out, late 50's, and what a load off.
Not saying the kid couldn't play, but I don't know if my ego could have handled him as a teacher lol.

I have held out on buying one because as soon a I do they will suddenly have 10 different color options :banghead: I have played a few and really like them and even considered buying a white one. The paint was sloppy where the white and black meet on the headstock so I passed on it. If they offer it in Pelham blue I will be all over that!!

+1 on a Classic Pro in Pelham Blue, or Inverness Green - Or one of the other classic Gibson colors from the 60's...

Yep, this is why I don't have one, I already have two white Birds, don't want an S/B (have one already) black is too done.

What? I thought you had one already, Mark... What happened to the one you reviewed?

They need some outlandish colors on those bad - Plasma Green would be nice.

Now, what's wrong with either Inverness Green or Kerry Green? ;)

My suggestions would be Transparent Black, Petrol and Burned Orange

TRansparent Black looks really nice on the Pro-IV & Pro-V... And speaking of orange there's a cool Fender colour called Tangerine Sparkle which would look really nice! :)

I figured since I'm only a week or so into my TAS (Thunderbird Aquisition Syndrome) I'll stick with the basic white and black for now. ;)

You got it bad already! :roflmao:

Oh yeah! Only one week into your TAS and you already have your 2nd T-bird on the way - I would say you got a real BAD case of TAS!!! :D

But hey, welcome to the club - Your TAS is only going to get worse... ;)

My collection has grown at a crazy rate in the last two+ years. Have to say my wife has been very supportive of my addiction. Some might even say she is an enabler ;) I have 8 reverse style and 4 non-reverse models at this point. I keep telling myself that I need to quit buying them, so we will see how that works out.

You just keep telling yourself that... Untill the next Gibby or Classic Pro comes out in a cool colour... ;)

Oh and mine is in his forties/ fifties so I can relate to him pretty well

The most challenging thing is he gives me an Elvis song to learn and I just am not (read that with an underline) an Elvis guy. I know he is blues and all but man this is killing me.

first riff my guy busted out was "born under a bad sign", I think we're gonna get along just fine :)

I have very little impulse control so it's probably just a matter of time. ;) I do still want to get one of the Spector Birds so that may be the next purchase.........If there is another. Haha

Thought you guys would appreciate this, in case you haven't already seen it. No connection with the seller.
Lot's of dollars.

Is it normal that the bridge and tail piece are out of line on these?

For sale in UK.

I know Scott has seen quite a few more of these than I have, but that isn't the first one for me with that misalignment.

I believe it was on the Metal Head to Head clip on Youtube with Billy Sheehan and Marco Mendoza where Billy makes note of learning all kinds of different music, not just the stuff that's the primary interest. One of the reasons Billy is so capable of playing in just about any style is that he learns a bazillion songs. Apparently he has several Ipods that are at full capacity, plus records and CDs galore. You may not really like it, but you'll learn from it, so figure it out and get it down...and you'll probably find something in it that you weren't expecting that gives you a whole new appreciation for why he wants you to learn that song to begin with.

Know what you mean.
I am doing a stand in for another band in a few weeks and they play all sorts of stuff, including a few Elvis etc songs- Now or Never, All Shook Up, Dream Lover,- lot's of walking and first and fifths, but struggling to get into it.
Even have to brush up on Moondance and Brown Eyed Girl! Ha!
At least they do some CCR and some Daddy Cool!

At least this "thunderbird" addiction is less likely to kill you in the long run :D

From a bass player. He also plays/teaches guitar, violin. We had the conversation of having a bass player vs a guitar player. I know where you were going Larry and I apreciate it.

That's good, Klondike. I'm not getting taught by a bass player and I'd like to be. I checked craigslist and there's not a bass player near me advertising for students.
