The Prayer Flags record release show was a blast. Went better than I ever would’ve hoped.

Opening band was Black Venus. Very energetic two piece. If youre older, the Birthday Party/ Bad Seeds influence was pretty obvious, but the kids didn’t know. The guitar player had amazing tone and was a great player. Oddly, he tried to be Nick Cave and Rowland Howard at the same time. Super nice guys.

Prayer Flags had a strong set with some very sweet crowd interaction and kind words. One bass player pal said, “That’s it, I’m getting a Thunderbird!” Must’ve sounded ok to him

I don’t care about speaker size one way or the other. It’s what works best within the design goals of the cab. For the record, my main cabs are the 1822 and two different 212’s. One sealed and one ported. They coexist peacefully

I think what Duke meant was that he doesn't prefer one size or the other.

Also it's pretty sound, not really groupthink.

I believe the groupthink is that if you put any old cab on top of any old cab, the results are unpredictable. the simplest solution is if you like your sound but need ‘more’ add a second identical cab. That’s the safest bet they’ll work well together. Not that other things can’t work. It’s just more of a crap shoot.

There's a tendency abroad these days that it's safe to ignore 'expert' opinion. Which is all good of course. We should have more bricklayers doing biopsies.

I like the way Eden sounds, but it just ain't for me in my current band. They don't break up worth a damn, which is why they're popular with them jazz dudes. Lucky for me, the sound in my head is pretty close to what I get out of Hartke 410XL's and the SVT-3 Pro. Cost effective happiness.

Contrasted with my brother (who was a member here forever before me) the jazz and worship team player: last I remember he has a Glockenclang Heartcore head and cab, and an Aguilar Tone Hammer and Bergantino cab, and his main basses are an American Lakland and his newest, a pretty nifty Fodera. He says he lives vicariously through me for the rock and roll side of things.

So, concerning pickup placement, what's the convention on where to set pole pieces with respect to nodes along the course of the strings?
I'm looking at replacing the neck position unit here with a DiMarzio Model One. String spacing works out fairly neat.

String spacing isn't that important as long as the strings aren't outside the magnetic field, I think.

I think a mudbucker at the bridge would be cool.

Ok, well I just agreed a delivered price on the 2011 Gibson Thunderbird I mentioned earlier.
5 days shy of 7 months early for a 50th Birthday Bass. That’s gonna be close enough.
Hoping it will arrive for my birthday next week.

Interesting. And sounds reasonable about spacing.
I was tentative about doing this, but it comes clear that this is not going to be your dad's Tbird... but it will be more useful to me this way. I like the novel, über-cool shape, and the ergonomics work well for me.

I doubt it is that one though, solely based on that the Studio line is a 'more affordable' line

I remember reading that the bridge was made for the Studio line by Hipshot.
