Traynor/Reiner update for anyone who cares. Did s full run through of the set for the Prayer Flags gig tonight. I found adding the Reiner pre gave me a lot more/better low end and clean headroom. It still ain’t anything you’d confuse for clean though. As for volume, we were really loud, even for us, and I had no problem getting more than enough volume. That power section is pretty stout as far as volume goes. To get as clean as possible I ran the Traynor’s master volume wide open. The Reiner pre (which is super clean) was at around 9 o’clock and the preamps master was about the same. So tons of volume to spare. Not 100% sure I’d recommend the amp yet, but you could do a heck of a lot worse, especially for the price. It’s also light for an all tube amp. I ordered a new preamp tube for v1. 5157? Whichever @kat888 recommended. Called Jonathan Reiner and he said that’s what he’d try first as well. So ordered a JJ gold pin. Only like $25 or something. Interested in hearing the differences.

I suppose if you decide you can't get it where you want it, you could always ship it to Kat, who just doesn't do clean.

One of mine also. I set up my ex-EAW 210 cab-thing on It's side for same reason.

I'm trying to move away from 4x10's myself but I'm leaning towards 12's. I have a low bar as far as cabs go. Maybe the Peavey PVH 212, two stacked up.

A Model T would be cool to get, same with a Coliseum, it depends if a good deal pops up at a good time. But a 1960's B15/B18 is higher up on my list.

That sounds pretty cool. According to James Miller Esq, TalkBass Ampeg endorser extraordinaire, the SVT212AV also nails the scaled down fridge thing. Certainly beats having a giant box blocking access to another three shelves in the bookcase.

Just get a fridge, lay it down on its front, and you have a coffee table.

I had to step away from the computer early yesterday evening to actually use my basses and practice for some upcoming work. Then I had a golf tournament first thing this morning (did quite well by the way). So it's been almost exactly 24 hours since I visited the club last and now there's 15 freakin pages of chat to catch up on!!! Dang, do you guys ever take a break?

Heck, at this rate, by the time I read all 15 pages and write a few replies there'll be an additional 5 pages to catch up on.

Could be the same version that was used on several Epi basses as well. It looks like the one I used when I rebuilt my Goth and it was listed as coming from an Epi bass.

Found this on GC's website. Mentions some parts but aside from"brass bridge" it doesn't mention it.

The same bridge (in black) is on my Epi Les Paul Special bass. The design sort of echoes the Hipshot A-style bridge, minus a few features.

That is what I would call "prohibitively expensive".

I would think that Gibson would buy direct from the manufacturer and in bulk so they would get a volume discount which would be much less per piece than I would have to pay. Gibson also used the same bridge on the Money Bass and the other variations of the double cut LP from that era (the blue, natural, and root beer finished versions).

I joined Talk Bass when I was living and working in China. No one believed they could ever make anything of quality. When I moved back to the States and joined LBO the outright racist crap I read about Chinese stuff surprised me but only a little. Pretty funny how the tune has changed.

Hey, I'm just as prejudiced. My YBA 300 was a POC in the 70s. The "reissue" a few years ago was also one judging from what I've read. Why after four (5?) decades of manufacturing was the first gen YBA 200 so problematic?

Ampeg's PF500 fiasco has put me off the brand after owning around ten of their previous products. I don't blame the country of manufacture. I blame whoever owns the company for poor QC and design. And myself for trusting what used to be a brand that meant quality no matter what you thought of the sound.

So, yeah, Bugera. Why not?

I remember the early 1970's when Japanese cars were basically crap (to be fair, so were a lot if the American and European cars). Fast forward about ten years and Japan leapfrogged most of the competition. To be honest, in the 1990's most of the stuff coming out of China was inferior, but by 2010 a lot of that completely turned around. To this day the biggest quality issues China has are driven by counterfeits where manufacturing shortcuts and inferior raw materials are the norm and premature failure is all too common. Having managed nearly a billion dollars in construction projects in China and importing tens of thousands of pieces of Chinese made industrial equipment to the US, I've seen it all.

ANDERTONS HAVE 2 SUNBURST VPs IN STOCK!!! Dilemma time. Do I call them and change my order from ebony to burst or do I hold out in the hope that the elusive ebonies will follow shortly? Eek!

You do realize the correct club answer is - buy the burst now while you still can. Then in a month when the Ebony VP is in stock you can get one of those also.

I'm struggling to remember what Gibson called that finish, it may have been Natural Burst, regardless it's a bit uncommon, you may wish to keep it stock.

Those guys are batsh!it crazy! I have raced motorcycles, ridden at speeds that are higher than all but supercars go, and done some kinda dumb things on two (and four) wheels on public roads. But the Isle of Man is a step way beyond that, and racing sidecar rigs are beyond insane, too. Those guys were born with some brain part missing.

And even if they weren't born that way, chances are by the end of the race they'll be that way.

The 410 cab is a horrible form factor. A typical 412 or 610 is much easier to haul in and out and packs a bigger punch. Replace your 410's with a 412 or 610 and give your back a break.
