It’s a beauty! I got an Ampeg SVTIII Pro. Ampeg has made a lot of great amps, but that ain’t one of em. I owned one for a half hour. Just awful amps, IMO. The cab was an Ampeg 410HLF. Words can’t describe how much I dislike those mud boxes. There’s a few Ampeg cabs I’d happily rock, but I’ve never tried an HLF I liked

There's nothing I enjoy less than being on the back of a motorbike. When there are driverless electric cars with a boot/tray to accomodate a 212, head and a couple of Birds I'll think about a car.

I was more implying that you were the one operating said motorcycle... er motorbike.... (does the name difference have something to do with driving on the wrong side of the road?).

If you get the opportunity to try an Ampeg PR410 HLF I'd be curious to know if you have a different opinion. I had one, let it go because of the weight and low shape of it. Wasn't home/cartage friendly, but I loved that cab.

I’ve heard there are great exceptions, but I haven’t had the pleasure yet. Though I can pretty much guarantee I’ll never own another 410 in this lifetime

I've heard two I really like,but I prefer a pair of 15s every time. Not more lows or any of that (maybe less actually), I'm just under the impression they have a particular character- if they're good drivers in a suitable box.

The 410 I mentioned was a really great cab, to my ear. I still know the guy who has it.

I'm an Ampeg guy and I hate the HLF too. Actually, I just picked up a neat little Ampeg box used - a 90s SVT48HE. 4x8" with a tweeter, 8 ohms, handles 200w. Has two inputs, one that takes the tweet out of the equation - which is fine by me. It does the best job of nailing the (scaled-down) fridge sound of any cab I've heard. They only made them for a couple of years and there is very little info available on them. Great match with my Crate BT350 head, which for all intents and purposes is an Ampeg. Sounds killer with my old V4s, too.

412s on the other hand ... last one of those I played through was just mental. Stoopid loud as well with a 100W head.

That sounds pretty cool. According to James Miller Esq, TalkBass Ampeg endorser extraordinaire, the SVT212AV also nails the scaled down fridge thing. Certainly beats having a giant box blocking access to another three shelves in the bookcase.

It's white with chrome hardware and has the chrome guitar-sized humbuckers. I ditched the black pickup mounting rings in favor of chrome, so the appearance is correct. Neck measures 1.70" wide at the nut and .86 thick (but it grows to around .90 as you move up to the higher frets).

Who makes a Model T clone?
Ever heard of a Marshall Major clone?

Hex makes a Model T. I believe Union Jack used to make a take on the Major. I've considered talking to Germino about getting a Marshall 200 "Pig" made up, but for the moment I don't have the cash flow for a custom build.

Sunn’s Come up pretty cheap from time to time.

A 2000s is another on my list of 'someday if the right deal arose'.

All y'all need to stop talking about Sunns. Trust me, they are TOTALLY not worth it in any way. Just leave them alone, and I'll be 'round to collect them and take them off whatever unfortunate soul's hands they've come to burden. It's very simple. Scott has Hiwatts, I have Sunns, everyone else can fight it out over the rest.

But on a serious note, I remember when I first started buying them, they were #1 easier to track down and #2 cheaper. Now you have people on Reverb (or rather, a person) listing them for rather higher than they should be at. It seems most 1000s heads are now going in the $1200-1500 range. Deals are still out there though, I picked up a matched 2000s head and cab a few years ago for $700, and saw another set locally at $600 last month (I didn't end up with that set, but I snagged the cab for $200, so it works out). While I'm still following the Sunn market like a hawk, my main attention is currently focused on getting some 4x12s for the Marshall. And then some day a Marshall 200. And, yeah, some Hiwatts/Hi-Tones would be a nice addition down the line.
