I've actually never used a noise suppressor. Thought about it when I still played black metal.


It has two stomp switches. Currently one sets the flanger to auto mode. That's going to be switched to turning the wah off and on. The other is a switch to turn the flanger on and off.

The pedal is actually built as a flanger. My tech is just cramming a Power Wah circuit in there as well.


I like that your basses all have a classic aesthetic, but are all kinda quirky and unconventional at the same time. I mean, except the P-bass, obviously.


Never compared basswood and mahogany directly, but there might be.

I have two of those little 6 string instruments (guitars) as well. They have the same scale length, identical pickups and controls, but their body woods are noticeably different. One is quite light and obviously a somewhat soft, porous wood. The other is much heavier, its body is made of a very hard, dense wood. The first has a much darker tone than the second. Both are bolt on.


I think it would actually make less difference in a neck through, since in a neck through, both ends of the string are attached to the neck wood, basically.

Nothing wrong with flower gardening, though. Albeit, Catapult's vocalist and guitarist are much more into gardening than I am.

Only reason I have a noise suppressor is because there is a LOT of RF interference around my place. But where my amp currently is, it's not much of a problem.

Sports aren't usually played in jeans, it's actually really weird to play golf in jeans, they just don't move properly. I usually just wear dressy shorts when I play

With a little research, they are called golf shorts. My high school had similar shorts as part the uniforms (I went to a non-private catholic school) So that's where I got the 'dressy' part from.

Most folks seem giddy with the #760 pickups, but no one can say better than you what you’re going to prefer. The stock pickups sure ain’t bad though!

The screwed up part is that he's the same drummer in the Crue and GnR act. So have to deal with this no matter what. Will see him tomorrow and not even mentioning the Crue band with him. He needs to talk to the singer and tell him what he wants to do. I'm not going to be the middle man here

Does body wood make much difference, particularly if the instrument is not neck through?

I don't think it makes that much difference no matter what. Some, but not as much as the true believers think. A pine 2x4 is outstanding tonewood with the right strings, pickups, and hardware.

I’m not sure how much difference it makes even if it is a neck through. So many different opinions on this subject. I’ve heard some say the neck wood is way more critical than body wood and I’ve yet to hear any strong evidence that there’s a huge difference between a good bolt on and a good neck through

My ears say it doesn't make a lick of difference as long as the neck isn't shimmed up with matchbooks.

I have built furniture using a variety of different kinds of wood. Honduras mahogany is my favorite, which just goes to show I'm an old guy. It has a stunningly beautiful grain pattern if it's cut so you get what I always called bee's wing grain. I don't think Thunderbirds are Honduras. Philippine, perhaps (Luan). That's a more open, splintery wood to work, but not as tough to deal with as kiln dried maple. Basswood is like working cheese. Alder is pretty easy, too.

None of this has anything to do with tone. To clarify what I already said, I think it has some effect, but not near as much as strings, pickups, technique, and a zillion other influences that get you where you want to go. Then you can get into what kind of finish you put onto the wood you chose to make the plank out of. If it's a hollow, acoustic instrument, wood matters more. If it's just a plank, it's an afterthought.

Like I said, on a bolt-on, I actually think body wood can make a big difference. It certainly seems to on my guitars that are electronically the same.

On a neck through, I would say it's not so much.
