Thunderbird Club

There's no rubber coating overtop the opti-grab. It's just bent metal painted black. i bought a set of bent metal (they're round not square like the opti-grab) and had installed it on my goth bird...but found not real use for them unless i had the bird sitting at nikki sixx height. I hang mine lower like krist novoselic.

Its just a bent piece of metal BUT does have a rubber coating over it.

I wish I could run a sling low for my bird. I'm gonna have to have one made (not a big deal, I'll just have one of our prototype stitch bitches do it at work) in order for it to be long enough. It ain't always easy being 6'6", but at least I can reach stuff on the top shelf.

I'm 6'2". Not the always the tallest amongst my friends but i've gotten accustomed to slinging my basses low since i was 8 years old :D It just feels natural, plus i make my own straps out of old used leather belts i've worn before. & I've got Dee Dee Ramone & Paul Simonon to thank for their influence of bass hanging (i'm a die hard 70's punk fan & regular precision player too - yes i cheat on my purdy bird, but she don't mind :)

My friends, please pardon my ignorance but what exactly is the Opti Grab and what is it's purpose? My TB didn't come with one (bought it used off of a friend) and assuming it never had one as there are no orphaned screw holes in the body by the tailpiece. I'm feeling somewhat cheated! ;)

Not that I have one on any of my 'Birds but from what I've heard, it's where you anchor your pinky for pick playing over the bridge.

Not played hockey in 2 years due to getting married and my old team being kinda d!@%$ about rejoining, so me and a mate are off on our travels to dundee on sunday if its on for some hockey for all. I'm so looking forward to getting back on the ice :)

Sorry for the non bird related post but hey :) :)

Its just a bracket that you would loop your pinky through to hold the body for neck dive and running around on stage. It works if your a pick player and keep your hand over the bridge. Nikki Sixx always had these ( his tech made them) so on his sig basses they put them on. Useless for most guys but it does work. Basically a handle.

Re: Opti Grab. Thanks for the quick replies! Now I don't feel so cheated, being Opti Grab-challenged! :) If I'm playing with fingers I usually anchor my thumb on the edge of the neck pup, if playing with
a pick I'll rest the side of my hand either against the body or corner of the bridge but my pinky would be curled up anyway. Again, thanks for the quick replies! You guys (and this group as a whole) are
the best! :)

Here is a related non TBird photo for you. I was at the Hockey Hall of Fame while playing a tournament in Toronto.

I have plastic & synthetic bone nuts as preference. Simple fact that they are easy to file & shape compared to Tusq nuts, which although good, FML when it comes to filling the slots. I've never really liked brass, since if it came to a metal nut, i'd go with yamaha's design using the same material they use for their frets which makes it sound more like a fretted note played open. crisp and clear. But this is all my preference.

How does it sound to you? From that pic it looks beautiful so if it sounds as good as it looks, win/win!

Well I found that picture online. But i do have another bass that came stock with a Brass Nut. It sounds great to me, but that bass is a total different instrument than my thunderbird. But it's $9 online for a Brass nut for the T-Bird. So i may just try it out.

I wanted to ask the club members if they have a Brass nut on there T-Bird?
