I have plastic & synthetic bone nuts as preference. Simple fact that they are easy to file & shape compared to Tusq nuts, which although good, FML when it comes to filling the slots. I've never really liked brass, since if it came to a metal nut, i'd go with yamaha's design using the same material they use for their frets which makes it sound more like a fretted note played open. crisp and clear. But this is all my preference.

I agree about the difficulty on filling any type of metal nut. But if a Brass Nut improves the sound of my instruments, it will be worth the stress on filling it. BTW i found this picture online of a Yamaha Metal Nut. Is that what your talking about?

Yup pretty much. "Nickel Silver is selected for nut. It is the same material with fret wires. Unlike conventional bone or artificial ivory nut, it gives the same sound quality and feeling even when open notes are played. For any bass players it is a crucial part of well-defined low end." quote from the yamaha website on their BB bass nuts.

Anybody ever have any grounding issues... my volume knobs dont appear to be doing too much, and there is a buzz (cant remember whether it is when i touch the strings/ hardware or vise versa) could this be the issue? My new pots turned up today and i have got a hipshot on route so may have to sort the bridge grounding out perhaps?

Your advice would be greatly received
