Well obviously I should have the amp with the KT88s ... but yeah, the 6550s are supposed to break up a little quicker. Other than that? Couldn't give much of a rat's hind parts.

That does look cool, thanks. But there is actually a lot of good stuff on the web and at the various tube store sites. I just haven't taken the time to better school myself on the technology. Plus, that frees that $40 up to buy some new guitar amp tubes or to put towards a lower power bass tube head!

I've done that a number of times, and with a number of tubes. At bedroom levels... you'd be right. At performance level (at least with guitar), I'd argue at length.
