Thunderbird Club

Ok, we all have different hands and that makes us all sound a bit different from each other. I get that and it’s awesome. But how many gear threads do we need to read some (not so) humble brag where someone states that their hands are so magical, they can get their exact ‘sound’ on any rig, anywhere and every time. I’ve heard a couple of those guys...their tone is lifeless and dull. No wonder it’s so easy!
Still grumpy from the bike ride :)

I feel your pain from your 'moderate pace' bicycle ride. Racer types are hard-wired that way - I know because that was me at one time. Now I ride mostly by myself and only do the pace I want to do - but I still push myself occasionally. (my forte' was individual time-trials - it's in my blood) Anyway, yes - playing different clubs/bars is always a challenge dialing ones sound. So many factors involved and always variable. Some nights you get what you want, other nights it's a struggle. I always am nice to the person at the board - they can make or break your sound delivery.

How do you find them compared to your Hi-Beams? Tension, tone, etc.

I'll have to admit to not paying much mind to string tension, the only time I really cared was when I put some TI Flats on my '89 - THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN!
Tone wise they're a little less metallic bright than DRs and to my ears a bit warmer, kind of growly, also a little easier on your bare fingers, really nice on the Lull. I tend to like a bit cleaner less broken up tone, played with a pick there's that nice ring like a piano string, turn it up some and you have the Big Angry Piano.
I'd kind of let it slip and not purchased any because none of my local shops stock them any longer so I picked up a couple sets from BSOL, not sure which other bass will get the second set, they're sure glorious sounding!

I am currently talking to this seller about international shipping on this second hand Cataldo and may bid, unless I am cutting across someone from here, if the shipping comes back acceptable and it stays reasonably priced. I haven't read all of the last 20 pages. Anyone on this already?.

Stevie Ray Vaughan could do it! Much of his "Soul to Soul" album was cut on a 335 (the one on the album cover). You'd never know it by listening to the album though! :)

Funny, I had similar opinions of the DR compared to the RS66, with the DR being warmer. And there I noticed a huge difference in tension. Maybe because I play with my fingers.

Gibson is in real danger of actual bankruptcy. Their credit rating is beyond terrible and they're not gonna be able to refinance at anything resembling a favorable rate, if they can find anyone to take that on. Seems one of their issues is excess inventory. They're all about lean manufacturing, but they ship to warehouses and carry a ton of inventory. Add to that their ridiculous dealer terms and you end up with a lot of finished inventory unsold. You can't find them at anything but the big box stores and sites. 7ender did that for many years too until they wised up and realized the product has to be available in order to sell it.

My brother says he can tell it's me even on drums. Is that an insult?

I know pics can be deceiving - but are those tape-on pearl blocks? They look off-center, closer to the E string side of the fb. Considering the decorative pg, I'm guessing the owner added tape-on blocks (over dot fb markers). Stone me if I'm wrong.

I am always nice to the sound person as well...never understood why people would get weird with someone who can ruin your gig!

Whoa! What a cool bass (I’d swap the pickguard, but it’s still awesome!). Great price too!

Never gets old :/

I'm waiting for the @dukeorock Traynor gig report...

Just got home from the gig! It went well...terrible recording, but a pal took a short bit of video. The amp is much better now, though I’m still dialing it in. Also never played the T Bird with the Lollars live...that made me happy :)

A musician buddy said he thought the whole rig was the ‘magic combo.’ It sure didn’t suck!
