Do you turn on the equalizer on the M9? I saw there's a switch for it.

I do at gigs a lot, especially on upright. But even on electric, it adds a gain stage that I find really nice. More aggressive sounding, even if you don’t touch the eq’s. It’s not even slightly tricky to use though.

This is more how I envision it.

And a visitor.

Bit dark, We are having ‘a soft day’ today.

Duke, earlier you said ‘Elvis face’ for graphic settings (as opposed to smiley face).
How does that look ?

Pretend you’re looking at a graphic eq

I tend to boost lows without cutting mids :)

What I really like about the M6 and M9 is the voicing filter. Besides the graphic and onboard compressor on the M9, that 5 position filter is the secret sauce of those amps.

Totally! Seriously nice sounding amps if you like it a bit on the aggressive side

Similar, yes. The M9 is a beast of an amp. I don’t tour with it much because their track record for reliability has been less than glowing. The little D800 has been bomb proof for a ton of 4 hour shows. I should ship the M9 back to have it looked at and get a clean bill of health, because it’s really a fantastic sounding amp. The low end is massive, but easier to dial than the Traynor, though the HPF has done wonders in that regard

Thanks, not really scientific but in the same general direction as my train of thought -- the significant difference is not valve vs solid state, but A/B vs D.

Looks off to me.

It was off for the a/b in an attempt to keep the playing field level

For sure...also, a valid question though would be; once you add drums and guitars, how much difference would you notice with some of these characteristics? Not really arguing any point...I like all of my amps, but this little a/b makes me want to take the M9 to my Eskimo Brothers gig tonight :)

Take the M800 just in case...

A fair question, although we'd both agree harmonic richness and heft are never bad things to have. Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. Ultimately you can run a DI out pre EQ if you really want to clean it all up.

Very nice Geoff.

Have you tried running a patch lead from the second socket on CH1 to CH2 and winding up both volumes?
Hi Kat, no not yet... I have a hole in my memory when trying to remember which is which with the two channels and with the two inputs in each. It just doesn’t stick. :)
Fortunately I have it all written down ... somewhere!
