Judging from the pickups it's either an Epi or a Tokai...

Interesting he hasn't posted any pictures of the backside so you can see either the the neck plate or the fixed neck joint...

The front cable jack is a good clue, lack of body laminations is the real giveaway.
Very clever the way he neglected to get a picture of the back of the neck lol.
But hey, the TRC says gibson so its gotta be legit right?

Hi guys, I think I posted here a while back, when I got an itch for a vintage Thunderbird and got hold of a nice '64. I'm not big on club membership but I appreciate they exist!

Anyway, I've barely played it for a few reasons, but lately I've been epxerimenting with more overdrive and distortion, and when I picked up this bass I got some incredible tones that really opened my eyes. I'm a big fender guy but this bass makes me want to play very differently, more fluid guitar like lines with a real ballsy tone.

It was wearing an unmatched set of RW nickel strings with a flatwound D, and I took those off to experiment with a few sets I have lying around.

I'm a huge fan of Rotos, but the SS set I put on sounded great but was lacking some raggedy highs when distorted that I really like with the unknown brand nickels. There was a bit less richness in the mids that I noticed, too. Maybe in a mix with guitars this would sound amazing, but soloed left me wondering if there was a set out there that people could recommend particularly for rich middy distorted tones through my SVT.

The problem is I have zero experience with nickels save a short stint with Dunlops (not the Extra bright set) on a P a few years ago.

I have a feeling DR Lo Riders might be great. In a way I haven't really made it easy for myself as I don't know if I want a ditorted focused piano tone vibe or more raggedy guitar-like distortion on this bass. I guess in the end I'll have to experiment unless someone out there thinks they can help.

Man, that thing, you can tell by the headstock, is an Epi. Ebay truss rod cover. No pics of the back of the headstock to show the serial/made in stamp, and well, geez, pass.

I strictly use SS strings on my 'Bird. I play heavier gauge - 55-110 and it's generally Ernie Ball Power Slinkys or when I can get them, D'Addario ProSteels (same gauge). I've very recently become a fan of the feel and consistency of the D'Addarios.

I've been unofficial d'addario endorse cause it's the only brand i've used on everything. Birds strung up with 55-110 as well, but i should try the prosteels. Sounds like they have a bit more zing in the mix compared to Xl nickel. I know one thing, i'm not using anything else for strings.

Got a chance to play the epiphone classic in white. for 650$ new it feels great. Maybe another 100$ & it's all chromed out Bu that's for much later on in my life.

I would consider DR Stainless 45-105, they're pretty raw and hold the treble/clank nicely......If you want a little less of that Ken Smith Rockmasters are very good too.

It truly is caveat emptor when it comes to finding "deals".

Well, at least being a member of this club is a source of incredible knowledge about the different T-birds on the market, so we won't get tempted by those so called "deals"...

Someone ought to call the "Ebay police" about those frauds, though...
