Thunderbird Club

I like my ABG. I grab it to noodle around on, and it is very handy at 32” scale. I like the sound, it isn’t an upright sound and it isn’t the same as my electrics really. I have used it out and it absolutely needs to be plugged in. :D

But it is also the bass that got me restarted a few years ago. Practiced at home without an amp and plugged in for my lessons. It served its purpose well. I think it is staying.
I call it Ringo.

I have a hot-rodded 70's 100 - it sounds very good but is big and heavy and not what I'd call gig portable. My Mesa (in gig case) is also heavy, but it's portable.

I’d love one of those but I have an 100w valve amp. If I get an additional valve job I think I’d like a smaller, lower wattage amp.
No requirement for bigger, sadly.

I hear you - I sort of acquired it, wasn't really wanting one - a long strange story.

It definitely has the same layout, but I've read different things from different places.
This is all from only a couple minutes of playing it, haven't been able to play it much yet, so I'm not 100% sure about some of these.

The three mini toggles on the bottom, I think cut bass, noticeably, but not to the point of a Jazz sound... all of them in the down position has a REALLY FAT tone! I've heard they are phase switches, also heard they're series/parallel

The big toggle is a pickup selector

The mini toggle in between the 5 position rotary switch and other knob, I'm pretty sure is a killswitch

5 position rotary switch.... no clue... yet

I may be crazy.... but it seems like there's two master volumes.... or it's wired wrong.....

Then tone... I think.... Again, only played it for a few minutes.

EDIT:
About the three mini toggles.
I think, one is series/parallel neck, another is series/parallel bridge pup, then series/parallel the circuit. With them being in series, that might be why it seems like there's two master volumes....

VVT is the wiring according to online doco. The chickenhead is a varitone ... supposedly.

Yes, and it's not even "all original" - it's been there for 8 months so most likely on a fishing expedition. I've seen them sell for around $500 in the past in crappy condition. Seriously tempted to sell mine for the price of a new white Epi Vintage pro! (like I need another bass...)
Of course you need another bass! Who doesn't?

I have an Epi VP in Alpine White and it is a stunning looking and sounding bass. It's the kind of bass where women will toss their panties at you instead of at the lead singer. Need I say more? :D

Gratuitous repost of a pic of my bass:

Soooooooo there was something in store for me today!
Well... to be fair... it was on the FedEx truck yesterday.... but wasn't in my possession.

1986 BC Rich NJ Warlock Neck-Thru with factory Kahler whammy... just need to buy the bar at some point.

Our little kid has quite a nice collection of cool gear. I, for one, think we should encourage him to acquire more stuff.

Because, we know that one day, our little kid will be a billy. He'll meet a nanny and get interested in having lots of little kids of his own. Then the nanny will make him "declutter" and he will be selling everything off. And then us old buzzards will be circling for bargains.

Trust me, I don't. :) Plus I have 1 ('64) T-bird and 2 T-bird by-products (1 Saunderbird/1 fretless Factorbird) so all T-bird 'bases' are covered. I'm just happy to see the Epi finally produced and so affordable so all of you can experience a T-bird in as close to its original form as yet has been made. It only took them 42 yrs... (from their first sorta RI in '76)

Knowing him, us oldies will be dead before that happens.

This is the Thunderbird Club. ‘Long strange stories’ is what we do.

It's the kind of long strange story that I still think was some sort of dream and really didn't happen. Nothing terrible - just dully unsatisfying. By not really acknowledging it's memory, it gets smaller and more distant as time goes on, which is ok with me. The big heavy hot-rodded Fender tube amp is in storage (out of sight/out of mind) until it fills some sort of purpose someday. (or not)

There are a few ACC stompboxes out there. IIRC they are all eye wateringly expensive.
No, not cheap at all, but not a whole lot worse than Darkglass. Plus, no learning curve for some of us. It would also take the place of the ToneHammer and the fuzz. The one I want has DI capability. The only thing it wouldn't do is take the place of the wireless receiver.

@kat888 Do you see anything wrong with Vince's photo… like the presence of one kind of thing, and the lack of another? It should be quite obvious here in this, the Thunderbird Club {toe tapping wildly}:rollno:

My version of 'decluttering' doesn't include basses or cars (including parts).
