Thunderbird Club

True. That is one of the building blocks to what I now know about bass tone

Interesting, never thought about that angle. So are you saying your tone is under you fingers and not this carrot dangling in front of you? Like "if only I still had that bass or that amp" etc?

Re the ABG's I have a Washburn AB20 an like it very much, depending on the show, venue and set list I use mine and it sounds great. Typically, I'll write the set list to have three songs together that it sounds good on, our guitarist also changes to her Tele for those songs. I've had mine since '97 or so and have always been happy to have it around.

Playing a show a big stage and great FOH, it's there with my '76 and '89.

I proudly owned an Epiphone El Capitan acoustic for 20 years. It was a gorgeous instrument, absolutely massive, and sounded great even unplugged - perfect for intimate jams or writing sessions. Unfortunately I just didn’t play it enough for the last couple of years so it got traded towards my classic pro in 2016.

Got my first 'performance' on this Novation Circuit...fun process to go all analog, no computers and live performance. You have to make the sounds yourself, then mix and match them in real time...pretty primitive first attempt, but my goal would be to graft this into the single source bass thing for live improv music

Just my opinion, doesn't sound primitive to me at all. Actually, sounds like you've been doing this for a while, impressive. Great vibe!
I wonder if @hillerup might have a spot in his band for you? Once you make it big on this new solo project.

Perfect for jamming over in 1st position on a 5'r :bassist:

Oh… I'm perfectly happy with my GK for the time being. Tubes are gonna haft wait.

Wasn't posting 'buy it now', just leaving a few examples there for you to think on.

As far as I know, that box is the 360 preamp in a stomp box. The original 360 head was strictly a preamp, and it would control up to four powered cabinets. I haven't tried using the 360 as a preamp before other amplifiers, so I'm not sure what it would do. I expect it would work well and provide a high level of control and the coloration you would expect from a 360. It wouldn't have the complete effect because, as you mentioned, the cabinet is a major part of the sound.

I could be convinced to swap the ToneHammer for one of those. Actually, that's not such a bad idea. Hmmm....

There are a few ACC stompboxes out there. IIRC they are all eye wateringly expensive.

I suggest snark, then misinformation, then a quick retreat before anybody notices. It's always better that way.

That's pretty much what I was considering, opening with 'define flat'. There was another thread where someone was asking 'what are these "passive" basses I keep hearing about'.

I have a hot-rodded 70's 100 - it sounds very good but is big and heavy and not what I'd call gig portable. My Mesa (in gig case) is also heavy, but it's portable.

The 100 has three handles, one for each of your arms. Portability problem solved.

Always room for an additional member! :)

Mine was exactly like the red one with the mother of toilet seat pickguard in that thread, except that it was black and battered. It had been found in a bathtub in an abandoned house, and I got it for free. I did a little work on it, including shimming the neck with spare change instead of matchbooks, and it was my bass for a few years. Then I got the EB-2 in what was essentially a straight swap for it. Not bad for free, plus about eight cents of change.

I've heard of people putting muney into their basses, but I didn't think it was literal. Sounds like you got quite the trade there.

JIO, Did you see that Hayman 40/40 bass that seller has?, i Know nothing about those, but looks super cool, kinda dig how it's layed out. Wonder if it's a dog, or something so strange and unique, that it totally rocks.
Haymans were like the flavor of the month in the mid 70's, the bass player in Brownsville Station used one at one point. I have always wanted to pick up one. I have never actually seen one in person.

Hayman's are more or less collector basses - I mean, some own and actually play them but they are sort of like Burns who they were associated with. Probably more common in the UK.

Those ring a vague bell -- they look a lot like Shergold instruments ... consults Wikipedia ... they are the same company. Hayman were built for Dallas Arbiter and then they continued building under the Shergold name. They had swappable electronics modules (Shergold Guitars - Modulator Modules), some could be converted into double necks etc. IIRC I last saw one being played in New Order.
