As for the VHIII album... I bought it and even went to the supporting tour. I didn’t make it through the whole show. The Palace of Auburn Hills was half empty and the energy was low low low. It was a low point for VH for sure.

I am a DLR guy all the way and liked the show they put on with him in 2012 with Wolfie on bass. It made me a little pissed the way the treated Michael Anthony though.

It's getting worse. I just ordered several cables, not because I need them specifically, but because they would make the connections neater. I think the new cables will make the fDeck's odd configuration work. One of the specific issues with it is how close together the input and out put are, let alone that they are reversed from everything else in a way that means cables have to cross.

Cables are cheaper than another pedal or a trip to a shrink. There's always that. I won't be headed down another compressor rabbit hole, though. I don't think my technique works with a compressor and a Thunderbird very well, even at minimal levels.

WOW! I imagine it's hard to crank out a top notch performance when you're staring out at empty space after getting used to standing room only. That would be humbling to most folks…

As for Michael Anthony… I always thought he'd be "safe"… like he was the third Van Halen brother or sup'm. They definitely did NOT treat him right :rollno:

Cables take up so much space! I have some shorter patch leads but they don't work at all as they are too rigid. I do want a right-angled jack for the board to amp connection.

Thunderbuckers don't get on with the Diamond comp. I'd have to daisychain the 18V outlet and I don't want to do that. Sanity will prevail, if I have to go and drag it back, kicking and screaming.

Funny thing is that I played for a bartender and a couple drunks once. After we were done, we were depressed, and the four of us who were playing together that night sat at a table and joined the drunks for a while. When we were done feeling sorry for ourselves and how badly we had played, we listened to a recording of what we did that night. It was far better than we thought.

Go figure!

Electronics can be a royal PITA. There's way too much that things do these days that aren't in the manual or anything else. That's when I revert to being a CroMagnon. Trying to get an 8 channel mic preamp to talk to the interface through ADAT cables is making me nuts.

But then there's fuzz. I didn't like the one I had, so I'm trying another on. This time it's the garden variety EH bass muff. If that doesn't work, then I'm just not a fuzz user. Except fuzz bow. That's absolutely awesome!

No, sanity will not prevail. Just pointing out the obvious. The specific insanity that actually happens may be different, but it won't be sane either.

I even got a specific aftermarket cable for the wireless transmitter because I didn't like the one that came with the transmitter. Shure sends three foot long (one meter for those of you who use real measurements) cable. I clip the transmitter to the bow holster or to the strap, which means I need far less length. Plus, a right angle keeps it tight to the body of Thunderbirds or other bass guitars, and keeps it out of harm's way when I stuff a tennis ball behind the upright's tail.

And, more cable insanity. I don't let other people coil my cables because they get tangled up and trained to do bad things. Then, once coiled, they have color coded velcro wraps - red for instrument, green for speaker, black for power or mics. Actually there's one singer who knows how to properly coil cables, but she's the only one who is allowed to do that. A singer. Go figure.

One other thing - mic cables are numbered at each end for what should be obvious reasons. Those reasons weren't obvious until somebody moved mics around without me knowing about it, and I cranked the wrong singer.

Many moons ago, I did tons of midi sequencing (pre computer-all Hardware) and sampling. Then digital audio workstations like Logic came along and everything just felt too easy. Felt like cheating. Ultimately tired of it and did very little of that sort of thing. Now I’ve been wanting to go back to hardware boxes and doing everything in real time, but the learning curve is a bear!

EDIT- the sampler/sequencer I got is smaller than my phone :)

Saving up for a bigger workstation (Elektron Digitakt), but in the meantime discovered the Teenage Engineering stuff. Messing around with it today. Also put a pre order deposit down on a Tasty Chips GR-1 sampler that uses granular synthesis to edit/tweak samples. That’s gonna be a serious learning curve!
I’ve got this half baked plan to do solo T Bird/ single source music live with no backing tracks or pre programming. Build up everything live, in real time. Biting off way more than I can chew on this little venture :)

I've had nights like that too… but hadn't toured the world several times over, playing sold out arena after sold out arena prior to that happening;)
