Yep, I hear ya'. My first Gibson was a 1959 EB-0, with the same monster pup in it.
Absolutely wish I woulda' kept that one too.
Some of the replies in that clip that I posted were a hoot! For instance the ones like "Okay, but wanted to hear it WITHOUT the dirt box too." -and- "you should demo more basses without all the distortion it doesnt sound very good. cant hear the tone very well" -and- "what is that fuzz or amp you're using?" and on & on.
I should have told them' doods' & doodettes, the sound that they are hearing is the bass without any outboard effects whatsoever. Ha!
That groovy "sounds like a wet fart" tonez is all due to pure phenolic melted butter bliss.
While most split-coil P bass pups average between 8-11K and most modern 'Birds average around the same output?
These black bakelite beauties averaged around 27 to 29K! Hottest pickups evah!
That gorgeous lush buzz, is produced because the output of the pickup is slamming the front end of the amp (any amp) so hard! LOl!
Lanois, lent Daryl Johnson, his EB-0 for some Black Dub tracks.
And Daniel also lent Daryl, his T-Bird for some other tracks off the same album; gratuitous T-Bird sighting alert.
Daryl, was sayin' how the EB-0 took some getting used to, being a shorty and all. But since the big 'D' is just a big cat to begin with, the man rates a pass. And he just killed on it anyway!

Clearly people buy/bought a bunch of their records. I'm certainly not one of them, nor do I understand why anyone would voluntarily spend their hard earned money on, nor subject themselves to that which strikes me as being similar to a cheese grater on my eardrums… but I'll certainly defend their right to do it. Some people have genital piercings. I am again, not among them, nor do I understand it… but I won't stop them.

Jumping in late here, but man, I DO NOT get Offspring. The lyrics, the sound, the weirdness. But yes, they were MEGA prevalent in the late 90's. Every radio station played them and a lot still do.
Thanks. About how much are they?I will vouch for the Lollars here as well, just get em.

I think I'm getting old and crotchety. I can't think of any fun party music I'd like to hear!

How about Van Halen? I put them in the same category. Nothing too profound in their earlier offerings with David Lee Roth doing the lyrics. Nothing greatly profound once Sammy Hagar started writing for them but it did turn into less of a party band for me when that change happened.

Oppsie. Just back from the House of Guitars. Turns out they had a unpacked Tobacco Sunburst Vintage Pro down in the basement. Mine now. View attachment 2953295 View attachment 2953297
That's what some people say about Slayer, Brad Paisley, and the Glen Miller Orchestra. It all depends on who yer askin'. As for me… if I were at a party & the Offspring came on… that would be the time that I would go see what's happening outside… or in the basement… or in the garage… or anywhere else! I've said it before & I'll say it again… I can find something I like about most music, or I can laugh at it, or tune it out… but the Offspring won't allow me to. They're the only band I've ever encountered that has such a consuming and abrasive affect on me. I'm not demanding that anyone else hate them… all I ask is that you allow me to!It’s fun, party music. Period.

Interesting development in the gig bag hunt. I was looking at my bass rack the other day and noted that the VP and my Tokai were almost exactly the same length. So I thought i’d Check how the VP works in my Thomann ‘Heavy Bass’ gig bag that i’ve Always used for the Tokai. Sure enough it fits much better than I thought it would. There’s a bit of wiggle room in there, but no more than I used to get in my plain hard case with the old Hohner Marlin. So it looks like a £20 own-brand gig bag (with 25mm padding throughout) may have saved the day for the times when I need to transport both birds.
