Joined the Epi crowd this week. Actually joined in December but had to send original bass back. It sat at a FedEx hub for 4 days in sub freezing temps. Ouch! Developed a finish crack in the neck so this is a replacement for the first one. I understand we need to be aware the G string needs to be long enough. What flats are you guys having good luck with?

Here's one that I like a lot. It's not for everyone. I happen to love these guys' music, and I'm really happy it's recorded. I saw them a couple times in person, and it was even better (to my ears).

Bought this Epi TBird-IV a week ago or so, I decided myself for a cheap option mainly cuz I want to make some upgrades on the way and see how it goes, it also helps me to reach my personal sound signature, I think (I hope).

Im mostly a guitar player and this is my first bass, been reading a lot from u guys lately!

Education and scientific career
Holland attended Pacifica High School in 13, where he graduated as class valedictorian in 1984. During high school, Holland was the best student in mathematics in his year, and he found it "just as exciting as punk rock."[4] He then attended the University of Southern California, where he earned a B.S. degree in biology and an M.S. degree in molecular biology, and commenced a Ph.D. in molecular biology.[5] However, after the success of The Offspring, he suspended his candidature to focus on music. Holland had said in 1995 that, when he turns 40, he would rather be a professor at a university than play music.[4]

Holland was a doctoral student at the Laboratory of Viral Oncology and Proteomics Research, Keck School of Medicine, where he was supervised by Professor Suraiya Rasheed.[6] In March 2013, Holland and co-authors published a paper in Invalid Link Removed regarding microRNA in HIV genomes,[7] titled "Identification of Human MicroRNA-Like Sequences Embedded within the Protein-Encoding Genes of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus".[8] The original academic paper describes the use of computational molecular biological (in silico) approaches to identify microRNAInvalid Link Removed-like sequences in HIV. These sequences are suggested to have evolved to self-regulate survival of the virus in the host by evading its immune responses and thus influence the persistence, replication, and pathogenicity of HIV. Holland was awarded his Ph.D. degree in molecular biology during the USC Commencement on May 12, 2017.[9]

I don't remember what kinds of crazy qualifications Charlie Parker, Clifford Brown, and some of the others from that era had. The latest is Joshua Redmond, who has something like a degree from Harvard. People like the rest of us can keep our day jobs, even though we are not as qualified. Being the same species is the only consolation.

My first Gibson ever was one of those. Loved it. But of course, i sold it. Just a young tadpole in those days a didn't know any better, like i do now?

Yep, I hear ya'. My first Gibson was a 1959 EB-0, with the same monster pup in it.
Absolutely wish I woulda' kept that one too.
Some of the replies in that clip that I posted were a hoot! For instance the ones like "Okay, but wanted to hear it WITHOUT the dirt box too." -and- "you should demo more basses without all the distortion it doesnt sound very good. cant hear the tone very well" -and- "what is that fuzz or amp you're using?" and on & on.
I should have told them' doods' & doodettes, the sound that they are hearing is the bass without any outboard effects whatsoever. Ha!

That groovy "sounds like a wet fart" tonez is all due to pure phenolic melted butter bliss.
While most split-coil P bass pups average between 8-11K and most modern 'Birds average around the same output?
These black bakelite beauties averaged around 27 to 29K! Hottest pickups evah!
That gorgeous lush buzz, is produced because the output of the pickup is slamming the front end of the amp (any amp) so hard! LOl!

Lanois, lent Daryl Johnson, his EB-0 for some Black Dub tracks.



And Daniel also lent Daryl, his T-Bird for some other tracks off the same album; gratuitous T-Bird sighting alert.



Daryl, was sayin' how the EB-0 took some getting used to, being a shorty and all. But since the big 'D' is just a big cat to begin with, the man rates a pass. And he just killed on it anyway!
