Nice! Greco Thundebird II with a Bad Bird bridge!

I found it in Japan and it was only the pickup and the shell of the body.It had been picked clean and 2 cracks in the neck and the fretboard was messed up in the first fret.
I got the bridge and pickguard from Scott Dasson.
Kelly Barber put it all back together for me.
Kelly is an awesome luthier.
It rocks.

I really can’t pick a favorite out of the first five albums they made. Of course Fair Warning is an excellent album and amazing from the first note of Mean Street.

I do like 1984 but not as much as their earlier work. A little too much MTV pop influence for me.

So i'm going to sound like a complete novice here, please forgive me to whatever extent. But how could it be that all 4 saddles line up for proper intonation?
I need to be educated on this one. Was going to use the analogy of, how could a 777 take off with a 0 degree flap setting, But even i know a very light load can sometimes get away with just the the leading edge deployed.

I like Cobalt Flats on a Thunderbird. Like every other string I have used, it needs some EQ on the mids to make sure it cuts if you have a thicket of guitars to deal with. Other than that, I'm really happy with them.

I'll look into those. I'm a Chromes guy on everything else so I may just pop a set of those on it and give it a go.

As for the VHIII album... I bought it and even went to the supporting tour. I didn’t make it through the whole show. The Palace of Auburn Hills was half empty and the energy was low low low. It was a low point for VH for sure.

I am a DLR guy all the way and liked the show they put on with him in 2012 with Wolfie on bass. It made me a little pissed the way the treated Michael Anthony though.

I saw them a few years ago (after DLR rejoined) - they had to merge a tour into another show. They headlined over Aerosmith, The Living End and Jimmy Barnes... and others.

They came on with a poopy attitude as if the small crowd was an insult and beneath them. My wife and I left early that night. They stunk.

The saddles are really slightly out of line Jeff, though close. All I can say is that the intonation is fine, in fact I got it out of the display case and re-checked it with my Line6 tuner - perfect. A testament to it's designer Mr. Dasson, it's a really cool bridge.

Look at any bass that's properly 2-point intoned (open/12th fret) and the saddles generally angle longest at the E to shortest on the G.

Electronics can be a royal PITA. There's way too much that things do these days that aren't in the manual or anything else. That's when I revert to being a CroMagnon. Trying to get an 8 channel mic preamp to talk to the interface through ADAT cables is making me nuts.

But then there's fuzz. I didn't like the one I had, so I'm trying another on. This time it's the garden variety EH bass muff. If that doesn't work, then I'm just not a fuzz user. Except fuzz bow. That's absolutely awesome!

All the fuzz boxes I've tried sound like a layer of fuzz on top of the original signal to me. For some guys they sound great, like my boy Roger from Howling Giant. I played through that same model of fuzz, a ProCo Rat, and it sounded like ass for me.

I have heard stories a couple of different ways. One story was the EVH and DLR wanted to replace Michael Anthony with Billy Sheehan but Alex wouldn't go along with it. Also heard that EVH wouldn't let MA play anything but the basic lines for the songs so Eddie could play however he wanted for each song. Who knows?

As good as Jeff Berlin is as a player, he wouldn't have fit in Van Halen IMO. He is a "serious musician" and the VH guys were all about partying. Would have been a lot of ego clashes in that lineup. Sheehan would have been a better fit IMO. He seemed to work well with Vai in Roth's solo band.

Yeah, they would have looked funny with that bass strapped up high a la Jaco..

Hmmm....dunno.. Billy's style does not complement Alex's style. Don't get me wrong, Billy's a great player (saw him as far back as with Talas) but he's more of a soloist and his tone reflects this. Not a style or tone that would complement the relentless pounding 16ths from Alex's feet IMO. That said, I don't know what Jeff Berlin would have done either. It would not be the VH we came to know and like, or (for some) dislike.
