Thunderbird Club

Preamp/DI will always be last. I might swap the fDeck and fuzz and see what happens. I can see advantages and disadvantages both ways. LEDs for underneath are now ordered. Sibling rivalry and all. I'm not sure where it should go on my board, what with the difference in shape from yours, and the way the power supply fits.

The adhesive on the strip feels quite tacky, but didn't want to hang on to the underside of the board. I cut a thin strip off a length of DualLock and that sorted that.

How is that VTBDI for you? I couldn't get a tone I liked out of it.

Funny you say that. Me neither. But it is super useful when we play live. The sound person always asks if I have DI out on my head and I don't because it's a '94 SVT, so I have them plug it into the VTBDI. It has saved my @$$ twice now when I stepped on a cable during a show.

As far as tone, weirdly, using the VTBDI and a Hotone Thunderbass 5w little amp, I can get a shockingly similar tone to my SVT in my basement though an old Vox 15" speaker. Like, shockingly similar tone at almost no volume.

It's entirely possible that the VTBDI sounds great with J basses, or hippy sammij basses, or coffee table basses ... just not with my basses. The DG Vintage Ultra will never have the richness or heft of the Traynor but it's good enough that I'm not looking for something else.

My chain goes Line 6 G30 > TC Electronics Polytune > TC Electronics Spectra Comp > TC Electronics Corona chorus > MXR M85 Bass Distortion on a Pedaltrain Mini and using a Pig Hog daisy chain power supply for now.
The reason I like TCE so much is the TonePrint technology. There's an app that you can change times on the pedal that you "beam" through your pickup to the pedal, and there's also software that allows you to set every parameter for the pedal. On top of that, they sound great, they're reasonably priced and durable. It's pretty amazing what you can do with it and they're definitely one of the most innovative effects makers going.
The MXR can go from a mildly overdriven tone to so much distortion your guitar player will be scared. They collaborated with Fuzzrocious on this one; not exactly known for their subtle effects.

Might also be that it isn't the sound you are looking for...

I have some of that stuff floating around in case it's necessary. Having been a professional knuckle dragger means I have all kinds of industrial strength fasteners, epoxies, goo, and other ways to make one thing stay attached to another. Figuring out where to put the light strip so there's light but it doesn't get damaged will be the main challenge. I kinda like the idea of a remote, so I can make it a different color at random times.

My brand new RD that I had for a week and have returned for repairs has now been with the repair shop for 5 weeks. Last night I got a call from them. The part they need to fix it finally arrived in Ontario and will now take about 10 days to ship out here to Vancouver (I assume they're having a guy walk it over a few Provinces?). Then once they get the part, they can drop it in and I'll have my bass back. Thank you 2018 Gibson!

Hold on to your older Gibbys that work well. They should be cherished.

What broke?

I did consider cyanoacrylate but the DualLock was in the house.

Suppose location of the bling also depends on whether you have the board in front of you guitarish stylee, or whether you keep it out of the way next to your amp feline stylee.

It remembers the last setting when you power it up again. Mine is currently set to cycle through the spectrum on the slowest setting.

It depends on the gig. Thunderbird, it's behind me because I tune once per set, more or less. I might engage the fuzz for a song, but no need to have it in front of me all the time. With the upright, I like having it out front where I can get at it. First of all, so that I can keep in between the amp and the bass to minimize feedback. Second, I check tune on a regular basis because gut strings do weird things sometimes. Third, fuzz bow. Third is probably most important.

I'll have to see what the lights do and how it looks in different places before mounting it permanently.

People eh?

Mark's venue for tonight: 'My daughter did not like her meal. The server was only able to offer a small discount rather than removing it from our bill. Why should I pay for something that wasn't eaten? I am very disappointed and will not be returning anytime soon.'
I can imagine what Mainville, Ohio is like. Everyone has the same last name.
