Thunderbird Club

Is that step programmer just a programable expression pedal?

Pretty much. Right now I just have it modulating the filter on the Cock Fight. Also used it to modulate the Superego+, which works well. Great for drones

Hmm. Interesting. My covers were off for years.By the time I put 'em back on,I'd changed strings numerous times and my hearing was headed south so I didn't really perceive any diff. I do recall-barely-that the older EB's had a lever operated felt"thingy"(technical term)that came up just in front of the bridge for muting but other than trying it out I didn't use it. Because my 5 string NR Epi-Bird has P/J pups and no covers it sounds VERY different from the 67. Also has different strings. I like the Epi but it definitely does NOT have that THUNDERBird sound we all know and love! Also, when I sold my '68 EB-3, I wanted it to look original-w/ pup cover-so I had to order one. Not that easy to find!:bassist:
You can get them from the Thunderbucker Ranch. I believe some folks on this forum offer them as well. BTW, I bought that Bird for 780.00 in 80 at Modern Music off Oakland Park Blvd. Remember them?

Yeah. I used to go in there and dream every so often. I dealt mostly with Ace(the bandit-we called them),Ross-Harris in Hialeah,Carroll music on Bird(!)Road and MAE in Ft. Lauderdale. All pre-GC,MF,AMS,etc.:)

Now I've got myself thinking:How badly would it f things up to put a T-Bird pup in place of that "P" ? Hmmmm:confused:

Thought of doing that with an EPI. Never bought it though, but from looking at it it would seem that by changing the pickguard you can put two Bird humbuckers and get very close to a 2013 Gibson NR.

OK! Just went and took some measurements and it LOOKS like a humbucker and trim ring would fit right over the existing "P" spot. Damn me for having this little brainstorm. Oh,well,if we didn't spend $ on gear,we'd prolly waste it on family, retirement, bills, etc. Where's the fun in that?:smug:
And on a totally different note,I see the Marlins are sucking as usual- I'm shocked! yeah, right.:bag:

Ooh,ooh! If I put a pup cover over it(which WILL fit),it would completely hide any minor glitches.Well,hell, I needed a new project.:D:cool::hyper:

OK.This train of thought just came to me about 45 minutes ago,so it's still in the development stage. My only pup experience is w/ Gibby's and I would prefer to maintain the sound like my '67 so I'd welcome any input re other brands that would do the job. FWIW,I like a fat sound,i.e.,plenty of bottom but w/ that wonderful 'Bird edge. AAAARRRGGH! What am I getting myself in to?:wideyed::nailbiting::help:

Well, I don't use th "J" so that could stay, put a black TB plus(or equivalent)w/ trim ring right where the"P"is now....don't know if I'll do it(OK,have it done)but any thoughts/suggestions are welcome. I do have a guy in WPB that can do it,so....:help:
If I put the pup cover on,then the pup doesn't need to be black. That might open up the options for the new pup.:poop:I;m gonna be awake all night thinking this out.

Pedalboard is getting ridiculous now

Have one more on the way for pitch based stuff. Still figuring out where I want to put the HPF/LPF. And before you OCD nerds start yapping about the lack of tidiness, I still don’t know how I’m ultimately gonna route everything, so I keep moving stuff. It’ll be all tidied up soon enough :)

Do you have a license for breeding all those pedals?

Lollar, Lull or Thunderbuckers will be your best choices, IMHO. All brands were reverse engineered from actual Gibson 60's T-Bird pickups.

I have the Lollars in 2 basses ( T-Bird and a Fender P-Franken bass) and I like them alot. They are not inexpensive but the sound, to me, is spot on for a vintage Gibson T-Bird.

Thunderbucker makes a specific 66' era pickup as they are a bit different from the first 63' models. You really can't go wrong with any but be aware, they are not an item you are likely to find used.

There are also sets of "Chinabuckers" and their ilk on ebay. I have a set of T-bird pick ups from Korea that are supposed the clones of early 60's T-bird pickups. The do resemble vintage Gibson's but are missing the low end the articulated high end that I hear in the Lollars. They are, however about $85 for a complete set vs. $450 for a set from Lollar.

I set up my GK with a single 4x10 last night and just plugged straight in - I'd completely forgotten how good the raw unmodified tone is, I used the Lull and the Purple '76 and had an eargasim
Have to travel for a show tomorrow, may leave the Line 6 at home and play without it for a change.

Thanks. I'm not looking for used or cheap,if I do this it'll be done right.:)
