The only Tech21 piece of gear I thought was good was the rack mount RPM. And not for any overdrive. It’s just a good sounding pre. Not a fan of the new one. That 2112 or whatever it is.
When I started playing again, I fell into the trap of believing that a certain company's products are the holy grail of bass amplification, and that as they were now actually available for sale to me, in some cases at prices which were just about affordable, I should acquire them (I completely disregarded the fact that the amps I had once liked were all Fender/Marshall/Vox, or analogs/clones thereof).
That path proved to be an evolutionary dead end for me, both on the macro (Ampeg) and micro (Sansamp) scale. The more I hear some of these devices, the more I am bewidered as to w.t.f I was actually thinking. The battery in my brain must have been dead or something that day.

Not at all. Like most of us, we continue striving for that"perfect"sound, whatever that may be to each of us. After too many years of screwing around w/different combinations-and depending on the requirements of the gig,i.e.,jazz,country,big band or,hopefully,kickass rock,I realized that for me it's a TBird and a "ender"amp. For some of the quieter gigs I use an Ibanez AGB200 semi-hollow that sounds very "upright-y". My greatest bucket list hope is that someday I'll actually produce the sound I hear in my head!

Hey Birders, got a pedestrian question for yawl... I once, long ago, had an Epi Tbird. To the chase here, does the Epi base model (Thunderbird II) have mojo anywhere near the heavy-ness or ilk of the standard Gibson model?
Does anyone have a concise assessment of the Epi model?

YEEEEEESH!!! I NEVER wanna produce the sound I hear in MY head! Ya know that sound when yer calipers are squeezin' directly on yer rotors? Your lucky. My daughter inherited a love of music(my dad was a sax man)but NO interest in pursuing it. Hey,1 outta 2 ain't bad.
So... is it safe to assume you have a gun or some other form of guaranteed effective "male suitor repellant"?

Add bass and a drum track and you've got a hit.
Once in a blue moon, I'll get real close to that sound here at the house. I write down the settings,take them w/ me to the gig, and the acoustics in the room make the whole thing farshimmelt.
Having never owned a Gibson, I can't provide an accurate comparison. What I CAN tell you... is that it definitely has mojo, and doesn't sound like anything other than a Gibson. I've noodled on a Gibson in-store, and to my ears, the
Epi sounded quite similar, but perhaps a bit more "polite". I'm sure Thunderbuckers and the likes would sound "better", but I like it so much, I'm gonna keep it the way it is & look for another Thunderbird to add to the flock when I can. So far, the tuning machines have been junk on every used bolt-on Epi I've messed with, and I'll reserve comment on the 3 point bridge (which I still plan to replace)... but other than that... it's a great way to getcher T-bird on without breakin' the bank!
