Honestly, with my "... down here in the gutter" remark, I was referring to those of us who's only Thunderbird, is the cheapest "legit" 'bird on the market.

To your point, though... I've never been so happy to see the gutter in my entire life! The gutter is a step UP from pergatory! As I'm gettin' settled in & gettin' little pieces of me in here... I'm diggin' it! It's occurring to me, that the whole thing can be "man-cave"!!! I don't know what I'm gonna do with that!!! I'll tell ya ONE thing though... MY BASS GEAR IS GOIN' IN THE DAMN LIVING ROOM!!!

I inherited my parents house. My bitter half and daughter choose to live in the Orlando area. All my music contacts are here in the Stuart/WPB area. Therefore, I live alone which means my fvckin' gear goes wherever the hell I want it. Wanna leave stuff hooked up? Nobody bitches 'cause ain't nobody here. Wanna crank stuff up(at least 'til 10 PM)? Go crazy. It's not a bad deal!

Re my comment "I'll have room to play my '67" one of the places we play(4 pieces)they need to move out a tall 2-top, which they gripe about, otherwise we have to go w/ 3 pieces. Even then I have to use one of my short scale basses lest I bop a guitarist in the coconut(which would be bad). The American Legion Club we're at tomorrow I've got R--O--O--M. Of such small victories comes

No they are bolt on just like all of the Lulls I have ever run seen. The neck mahogany and is painted to match the body.

There's a chain in FL,w/ 1 in Atlanta,called 4 Rivers that smokes everything(except cold sides,anyway)including the best baked beans I've had -except for my Mom's and she didn't smoke 'em. No, I don't work there,I just go there maybe more than I should

When I started playing again, I fell into the trap of believing that a certain company's products are the holy grail of bass amplification, and that as they were now actually available for sale to me, in some cases at prices which were just about affordable, I should acquire them (I completely disregarded the fact that the amps I had once liked were all Fender/Marshall/Vox, or analogs/clones thereof).

That path proved to be an evolutionary dead end for me, both on the macro (Ampeg) and micro (Sansamp) scale. The more I hear some of these devices, the more I am bewidered as to w.t.f I was actually thinking. The battery in my brain must have been dead or something that day.

Yes. The battery needed low frequency stimulation for a recharge. It could have been worse. You could have stuck yourself with a J, the Geddy of basses, for a while. That would have risked permanent damage. You got away with only an economic dent.

Hey Birders, got a pedestrian question for yawl... I once, long ago, had an Epi Tbird. To the chase here, does the Epi base model (Thunderbird II) have mojo anywhere near the heavy-ness or ilk of the standard Gibson model?
Does anyone have a concise assessment of the Epi model?

Bolt on? Mine has a much bigger neck and somewhat less aggressive sound. It is a different animal, but it is still unmistakably a 'Bird.

I really don't understand why everybody hates on the 3 point bridge. Mine intonates fine and matches the fretboard radius. Everything seems to resonate fine.

Nothing wrong with a three point. I just like a Babicz better and can indulge my little whims on occasion.

BTW, apropo of nothing, I've never tested leathers but I DID road test a brain bucket once, which might explain a lot of things..............

Roger - I have an anniversary Gibson TBird, an Eppi Goth and the new Eppi VP. So keeping that in mind here's my take...

The Gibby sounds warmer, more polite and refined. The Goth was very mid focused and the VP is a snarling beast that can be tamed with the proper strings if desired. Every aspect of the Gibson speaks of quality and precision. Same goes for the VP. Not so with the Goth, which has probably the poorest excuse for tuners that I've experienced on any bass at any price point (yes, even the plastic knob Chinese banjo tuners on my Dano longhorn are better).

All that said, if I were buying a TB new today I would look no further than the Eppi VP. It's just the perfect bass at a better than perfect price point. If I were buying a used bass I'd focus on trying to find a 2015 Gibson TBird for under $1200 (it has unique sound options that make it the Swiss Army knife of TBirds). If buying a bargain basement TBird is the goal then look at the Korean made Goth for $250 and add a hundred bucks for legitimate tuners, the rest of the bass is fine as is.

Thanks for that rundown, @GBassNorth, I just hap'd upon it for $250, thought about a "real" Thunderbird to accompany my modded Black-Eyed-Bird... it was a whim, a notion, that fell back to the counter after my attention stepped off it.

The three point bridge is a cast pot metal POS. Those who embrace it have been feed mediocrity for so long they don't know any different. there I said it, I'll head for cover now.
