Yesterday evening I went to see Kim Mitchell performing locally.

For the non-Canadians, he is a well regarded talent around Canada and had some minor hits in US and Europe back in the 80s.

He put on a great show. He clearly still enjoys being on a stage playing for a crowd. And he played a lot of the old Max Webster favourites.

I'm in the crowd in this one. See if you can pick me out.

I have Heinz Baked Beans, though not in those numbers. But I still mourn the PMU beans of my youth. They disappeared from supermarkets years ago now, amazingly Heinz cans in all the same sizes multiplied at about the same time.

PMU (Pick Me Up) was our choice in baked beans, tinned spaghetti and Worcestershire sauce. We used to buy 333 (Three Three’s) brand pickled and cocktail onions, and gherkins. But they are seldom seen these days.

Same here. Moving Pictures tour. Max Webster's bassist was amazing!! I was still a guitar player then and that guy's playing really caught my attention. Pye Dubois was his name:

Yeah, I’ve been there (the past) the last couple of days. Trawled YouTube for the stuff my Dad liked when we were young. He was an older father and his ‘pop’ music during the Beatles & Stones early days was: Herb Alpert & Tijuana Brass, Bert Kaemfert Swinging Safari, James Last Trumpets A GoGo. Plus Max Bygraves, Johnny Mathis, Bing Crosby. You get the picture.

It was actually quite cool hearing a couple of those brass guys again. I certainly did remember the songs 50 years on.

Very different to my choices as I grew up though.

Sometimes you can't beat the originals...we are importing "old fashioned" coke (original; not corn syrup and tall recyclable glass bottles) from Mexico these days..

My dad played in big bands in the 50's. I grew up listening to the "Great American Songbook". It gave me a good foundation for what I do now. If I'm sitting in w/ a bunch of"Old"guys(my age too)I can usually pick up the changes pdq even if I've never heard it b4. I've gotten a few decent paying jazz gigs because of that-and my one working(?) ear
