I think in the UK Heinz beans are the ones to go for, they're streets ahead of the rest, I'm not a bean eater but beans on toast is a nice change once in a while or beans with a good fry up breakfast but then I like the beans to have been reheated a couple of times to make them a little stodgy. Chasing food from my youth had become a bit of a favourite pastime for me at one time, the days of the corner shop when most of the food we ate was produced on farms where we knew the farmers and there was a baker just across the field filling the air every morning with the smell of fresh bread that we'd have for breakfast with real bacon dry cured at the local butchers. Food isn't what it used to be

And while I'm at it: Everybody else here, thank you all so much for the kindness you have shown since I came back, it shows just what kind of people you are. The answer is of course just plain normal but you're all Thunderbird players so that makes you extra special to me. The sad truth is though that although it should be just normal to accept someone like me it isn't always so. I was literally bricking it before posting the other evening, I didn't even think I would hit the post button while I was writing the post; I feel a bit ashamed now that I even worried about how you would react so please accept my apologies for that. It still feels very strange to me too so I accept it will be for you too but I am still the same person I always was (except I now have hair (admittedly a wig) and I occasionally wear a dress). Then again you're all in a similar position being TBird players

Same here. Moving Pictures tour. Max Webster's bassist was amazing!! I was still a guitar player then and that guy's playing really caught my attention. Pye Dubois was his name:

Pye Dubois was the lyricist - not a musician. At that time, the bass player was probably Dave Myles but might have been Mike Tilka.

My dad played in big bands in the 50's. I grew up listening to the "Great American Songbook". It gave me a good foundation for what I do now. If I'm sitting in w/ a bunch of"Old"guys(my age too)I can usually pick up the changes pdq even if I've never heard it b4. I've gotten a few decent paying jazz gigs because of that-and my one working(?) ear

I was so lucky in the navy being a diver, it was always RFN!!!!!.... except the divers. Easy life

Like with coke, the British stayed true to the original Heinz recipe so we now have to go to the British specialty/import store to get those..

Ah, the things we learn here. There's a terrific Brit specialty market in Orlando and I go up(from my house anyway)there often. Gotta make a list.

Tinned beans are somewhat in my past. As @Christine says, better to make up a big batch of home cooked beans. Dried cannellini beans are the food of the gods and just the thing to go with Thunderbirds.

Gone though all the same, now we have watery bacon that's paper thin and sliced bread with all the taste of a bowl of flour and water. We actually make our own bacon now using free range pork, so much better but bread is just too much hassle

You've stated munny's tight but look around for one of those home bread makers. Make it to taste.

We hired a new guy at work. He introduced himself in a meeting with about 40 engineers..He said he was previously a Navy Diver..I asked if that was springboard or platform?

After that day he was known as Springboard Willie.

Yeah, I probably should have had an emoji in there. Of course I know PDQ. But in the Army you could have a full cogent discussion/argument consisting of nothing but F-bombs.

Fridays after a few beers, we used to do "the Airborne Debate Team". Very Amusing (after a few beers).
