Just put brass Loxx on my T-bird. I'm pleased with how low profile they are. Also the body doesn't tilt away from me now.

I'm convinced by Loxx. The strap attachment works better than others I have used, and the low profile is excellent. I find that they allow me to move around more than other locks or just strap buttons. That probably means I'm going to break them or some other awful thing, but for now, they are the best of all worlds.

Honestly if I could afford Lulls I would just get them but at £488 a set I can’t stretch to it. Thunderbuckers are about the same once you add import duty and shipping

Call me grumpy but on reflection I can’t be bothered peeing about with Mojo’s inability to produce to demand. Four pickups and they don’t know if they can make them? I’m just going to go with Chinabuckers and have done with it, at least they are available when I need them

I keep that bass in a cage. It has a terrible attitude. When it gets out on its own, all kinds of things happen. Singers' heads are not the only thing it aims for. Thunderbirds are far better behaved.

That's why I built a Fenderbird that's essentially a P in all respects but shaped like a Thunderbird.

My fenderbird has a P neck and I hate that, all the other hardware is what you’d find on a bird, TB+s etc. I’m going to swap that neck for a good J neck when I find one I like

I have a set that were installed, played in my basement and uninstalled. I replaced them with a set of Lollars. They were going to go the classifieds here so if you have interest, let me know and we can work a "friends & family" type deal....BTW, these were made in Korea....

I still have a FrankenP lurking around the back of my mind. Finding anyone here* to do the finish would be the hard part.

I thought about doing the prep work and then taking whatever I wanted painted to an auto body shop. The paint would be automotive enamel, not nitrocellulose, but the kind of finish that would require a trip to an auto painter wouldn't be a nitro type finish anyway. I suppose you could get an outrageous metal flake nitro, but it would be easier to get that kind of finish from somebody who has painted a hot rod once or twice.

Had a fun Single Source exercise today. I wanted to see if I could make a ‘song’ by only playing one note on the bass, then manipulating that one note into something musical. I also wanted to learn an iOS app called Samplr on my iPad. I imported the note into Samplr and made 6 copies of the note. Then spent a few hours chopping and messing around with it. Once I had a jam I thought was interesting, I threw it into Logic for additional editing, effects and mixing. Super fun exercise trying to turn a single note into something

Kat... one day, when yer curiosity and spare time correlate, take one of your basses down to a local hot rod/custom shop, & ask 'em what they would charge for a finish like you want on something like that. That would give you a ball park idea of what you'd be lookin' at. I'm positive you could get the glammiest uber-sparkle finish imaginable... it's just a matter of, "does it cost as much as a stompbox, or a car?"
