Thunderbird Club

I ordered 7ender Strat knobs since the originals looked identical to them from pics that I've seen. Black with white lettering. Two sets so I could have two volume knobs instead of V T T.

It's the reason I went white on the TBird logo.

The Queen seems to be busy so I'll ask this here again:

I got the pro bird, the pickups are passive? Might want to sell them but my active ciruit is f*cked, the bass pot is broken so I can't sell the whole "electronics package"

Why not replace the circuitry with a passive set, or a new set of actives?

I wish that somebody would make knobs with either Blend on it or a set of V/B/T. I'd order a few sets immediately.

Hiya everyone!! I'm a Burning Bird TBird TGirl. (Phoenix, Thunderbird, Transgender.... geez, do I have to explain everything??) I'm kind of a noob on bass, but in my testosterone days I spent a LOT of gig-time hitting things with wood. I have a real pretty Epi Thunderbird IV Limited Edition, and it's def my fave bass of the 3 I've had in my life but never learned to play very well. Over time I'll be putting together a trans-band here in Phx. I play and write HR/HM, and I also like some pop and pop-punk and will one day try to write that stuff too. Main bass influences so far: Geezer, Chris Squire and Justin Chancellor (he's Squire's kid, right?). I don't hear many bassists that stand out, so my biggest influence might actually be the occasional good bassline from a song played by a bassist who I don't otherwise notice. Anywayz, I'm here to steal knowledge so I can become a bigger threat to society. And I'd like to thank TBird1958 for being so helpful right away regarding neck-dive, for starting this Thunderbird Club, for being a role model, and for giving me a great idea for a pic!! The bass is mine. :) The car is a neighbor's. :-(

Hiya again. My precious Alpine White TBird - yes, I actually named it "Precious" - needs to be drilled so I can move the strap pin downward so it's behind the faceplate as per TBird1958's suggestion in the Neck Dive thread. I'm afraid of making cracks in the finish that would spread, so I'm kinda "meh" on pounding a nail to make a pilot hole. I've drilled a Paiste gong before (to stop a crack), but heat is the enemy of alloys, so you do stuff to minimize it. Does a bass finish need kid gloves too? And what's best to do with the old hole? Just countersink a same-thread screw? Thx!!

I would leave the old hole unplugged. & for drilling, my trick is to make a pilot hole first, & then gradually go up drill bit sizes until i reach the exact one that's the same size as the screw you plan on using for the strap pin. It's a good way to avoid any cracking in the finish or even chipping the paint off.

Best of luck, & welcome to our Thunderbird family :D

Welcome to the club!! As far as filling the strap hole from it's original location and the bass isn't getting refinished, I just leave the existing strap button where it is. Keep in mind that when I am changing strap buttons they are being replaced by straplocks.
As for placing the button in it's new location, Hillerup and I like to drill thru the neck plate between the top 2 screws. Some people like to use the flat part of the body between the neck heel and the bolt plate. I've never been a big fan of that location but others seem to use it with no issue. If I was going to drill into the paint I would put some painters tape over the location where I am drilling and make a pilot hole with a smaller drill bit. Then I would drill the other hole to the correct size. I would NOT use a hammer and nail to start the pilot hole. Hope this helps!

:)

Awesome!

Welcome Vara!
I'm working with a laptop which makes bringing the list forward a big PITA, but don't worry, I'll get you on the roster.
