That's a whole lotta mad science up in there, Mr. Moog.

The work specifically for the Gibson RD circuits was done while Bob Moog worked for Moog Music which along with Gibson, was owned by Norlin, as I understand it.
Maybe so but they where designed by Moog. They call them Moog electronics for a reason. Even if Gibson were the ones using it it's still his work. I highly doubt they would go the lengths to create something as complex as that for a LP guitar, let alone a bass

Gibson hasn't innovated when it comes to bass guitars. But Bob Moog, that's a whole different story.

Actually, Gibson has made a lot of different basses over the years with very little crossover of the parts other than bridges. They've made new pickup for almost every different model produced. Even Post '88 production Thunderbirds have had 4 different pickups in them.

Yes, another example are the great humbucker pickups used only in the RD Standard Bass that I mentioned recently in this thread.
There is more info in this great resource about Gibson basses.

I must admit I may have gone a little overboard. I don't want to start any arguments. And I might have let my dislike for modern Gibson get in the way. What I meant by not innovating was not adding any new features. Not to say they haven't made great basses.

So I decided to pick up that thunderbird pro iv. Cleaned it, set it up, new strings, one practice and then a gig on it last Saturday. Pretty nice bass, so far I like it allot better than the bolt on I used to have.

With the flash you can really see the wood and grain, but up close it's a very dark bass.

The only thing I have noticed is that the pre amp is a little noisy, I think it's a grounding issue somewhere but I'll probably just shield and ground everything eventually and that will take care of that. Also (and I should have done this with the set up) the bridge is a bit quieter than the neck pup, going to have to adjust the heights and try to even them out.

Missing the truss rod cover, anyone know where I can get one?

eBay for a TRC. You can even throw a Gibson one on there. ;)
Thanks!

That is one big ass case
Yea it is, it's ridiculous. That's what the foam is for, and there's another piece that isn't in the picture that goes on the bottom side of the bass so I doesn't move in the case in transit. Came with the bass so can't complain too much.
