Thunderbird Club

90#'s plus worth? My homemade deal is just fine.

I got these. Each hold 120kgs supposedly.

Quick question for the group on T- Bird value. Since they seem to be petty similar would a T-bird from 1990 be "worth" more than one from 2013, if all things are equal except the age?

I'd pay more for an older one for a couple of reasons:
More than likely the pickups won't be of the current design - There are at least 5 different pickup that have been used since the re-issue in '88
There early re-issues don't have as much pitch in the neck which gives lower action and gets the strings nearer to the pickups.

Interesting and thanks. Is there any place I can get an idea of the pick up differences?

Outwardly they all look the same(black plastic case), you can only tell by taking them out and flipping them over. I've seen a Sidewider design either potted or not, and at least three variations of the twin coil design.

That is a very valuable bit of information.

It's one of many reasons I really like my '89, the re-issues don't get the credit they deserve as players, the early ones are (in my opinion) very good as players. So, were I buying I'd look for the early years of the re-issue.

Good point. Both of my Tbirds don’t really sit in the case well. It’s like the forming for the body isn’t deep enough, and just carrying them makes the bass slip down and out of the body form. My 2000 Blackbird AND my 2012 Heritage Cherry Bird do it.
Foam velcroed in at the neck support rib, works like a jet..

What is the pitch on an older neck do you know?

My Thunderbird Studio does it, not sure about the Bicentennial. The Epiphone CIVP and VP seem fine in their factory cases. Unfortunately, the modified body shape of the Studio doesn't fit the Epi cases at all.
