Here's something a li'l different. This was Dave (Clem) Clempson's band, before he replaced Frampton in Humble Pie. Puts me in mind of Cream, with a "Prog-edelic" twist (do not expect the next song, to sound like the current one. These guys musta had a good dealer).

The really daft thing about Top of the Pops back then was that they they m ade the bands appearing play the songs during rehearsals to make sure they could actually play before they made them mime Only the BBC and the British attitude could come up with a show like that

I only got to see SLADE once, Dave Hill was wearing those boots. There were easily the LOUDEST band I've ever seen, that Hi Watt backline wasn't fake, they cranked it up! Hill wasn't ever the consummate guitarist (even by his own admition ) rather, he was the guy that wore the crazy clothes and really put on a show - he certainly didn't disappoint when I saw them. As a band SLADE had a huge, lasting influence that continues even today - The Darkness being a fine example.



Mr Noddy Holder, outside the U.K. he's not so well known, this man has one of the very best voices in rock, he's backed by one the most unnoticed great bass guitarists ever, Mr Jim Lea.

Jim Lea! One of my favorite bassists. In my Bass pantheon he is in the top three, Lea McCartney, Entwistle. No particular order all there are so influential in my development.

The bass was sent into the John Birch shop for some minor work and came back white with two Birch pickups and the large pickguard. He was not happy.
