Re the amp thing, I'm likely a bit different, I really like a clean SS amp and have played GK for about 35 years now. I like to hear the bass' tone, not so much what the amp imparts. I use a pick for about 95% of our songs and like a bit of definition in the individual notes (like the first part of "White Wedding" by Billy Idol), some clank and treble, I find that GK gives that tone pretty easily and there's way more than enough volume for what we do, I haven't played a show with out FOH for two years, last time was a smallish downtown Seattle bar. One change that I'm pretty seriously considering is going to a Bergantino 6x10 to replace my 2 4x10 SBXs that are 12 years old.

Once you go Berg, you won’t go back. Something to that affect.

I have a Stuart Spector (NS 94, Korea), a heavily modified Squier Affinity J-Bass, a USA Pro Precision. My whole life I wanted a T-Bird, knowing that « someday »...
and that day came two days ago! A bad condition 2007 Gibson T-Bird, here in Costa Rica, sold 1000 USD without hardcase. Finally I got it for 625 USD! I fixed everything I could and it’s sound good! Some crack at the back of the nut but nothing a good luthier can’t fix, IMO. I’m gonna read this entire T-Bird thread ASAP and post some pictures. ´Cause I have a lot of question, about the sound for example and the tone knob in particular that doesn’t change much the final result. But I guess every question I have has been answered here! I salute you T-Bird people!

Although it may be a while before the question is answered to the specifics asked. We like to derail.

Not so much, I don't mind amps on stage, but really the FOH does the work anymore at a larger venue. I love to hear my bass and like getting my skirt blown up as much as any girl so I'll always have at least a 4x10 (yeah, I get the SVT+ 8x10 thing too), but moving way more amps than are really needed isn't something my 60 year old spine wants to do.

I don't agree with a bunch of dummy amps or other such fakery... but I wanna see what they're using. I mean... on stage at a concert, is a place where it's ok and even expected typically, to see cords, stands, instruments, & amps. Why take them away. It's like going to a car show where all the engines are removed from the cars

To me the amp is part of the instrument. It doesn't need to be 300 watts and an 810. Most places I can't even crank my 50 watt with 2 x 210s!

I think you misread. I did mean "quaint". Better than the clinical stages today with wifi, iPads, electronic drum sets and playback..

I don't have one pedal, never even tried one despite having a small hankering for a Catlinbread Echorec. I have been considering getting a decent tuning pedal too but i'd probably fall over it

I've tried various pedals over the years: Fuzz(lost the bottom), Phasers(meh)and a previous Octaver(1 down)for trio work. I'd play up an octave, it gave me the octave below, sounded(almost) like bass and guitar playing the same line during the guitarists solos. Only one I use now is an EHX Micro POG. It gives me 1 up, 1 down plus whatever note I'm fingering-or any combination. It's right by the base of my mic stand, thereby reducing my chance of tripping over it.

I have a Boss chorus pedal for a cover or two, because it's such a part of the song you'd miss it if it weren't there. Sometimes I trip over it.

a combo of compressor and chorus works pretty well. Volume pedals can be handy as well.
