+1 to that. It’s all subjective. Yes there’s a difference between tubes and SS. Both great. Just find the one that works for you.
I’ve had both of various brands throughout my years. And the only one that didn’t fit the bill was a Hartle LH 1000. Not knocking it, just didn’t work for me. I have yet to play through a “bad” tube amp.

The tower of jank currently has a small Hartke head scrounged out of a broken combo. It flat sucks. Scratch Hartke off the list of amps I'll ever think about again.

I go the other way with that. I don't like these modern stages. I am an absolute gear junkie! I love seeing a poorly lit stage with gear everywhere. I hate 200 foot tall video screens & bare stages. It makes everything seem all fake & "Hollywood". As a musician, I want my gear on stage with me too. I can't imagine it otherwise. Not in a live situation anyway.

Being a drummer means you have to have your gear on stage. Unless you are playing electronic drums, and that's just kinda weird looking. Fun and easy to move, but weird looking. I don't own an electronic kit, partly for that reason, partly because I don't have much reason to.

Oh, it lives. The surf band thing died on the vine, which is OK with me. I think they decided they wanted a dedicated surf band bass player, and the rehearsals were next to impossible for me to get to anyway. Therefore the tower of jank hasn't had a whole lot of exercise lately. I want to put one last new 12" driver in it before I forget what the other one is, and then see what it sounds like as an extension cabinet with the little Carvin combo. That might be pretty amusing. It's a pain to move, since it probably weighs more than 100 pounds with the drivers, and only has a strap handle on one side. I need to put more substantial handles on it and wheels somewhere.

Visually, the Hartke junk amp is perfect. No case, just some brown corrugated cardboard and blue painter's tape. Can't get much more janky than that. But, it sure does sound like crap.

I have one of those, since I was a contractor for many years. Got an appliance hand truck, too, and that's even better since it goes up and down stairs easily. It works fine, but herking that thing around is awkward even with a hand truck. Besides, leaving well enough alone isn't what I do.

Yeah, I have an appliance hand truck also. Very useful on stairs. Butt ugly, but it saves my back.

I've been waiting with bait on my breath-something like that-for flak re my TBirds. So far, nothing.

I have learned some very useful stuff over at Rumble Club. Unfortunately, after I bought the R200C. Things that would have changed the direction I went,purchase wise. I'm very happy with the sound and weight of the Rumble but I probly woulda gone with the 200 head and 2 112 cabs. Too soon old, too late smart-kinda.

Yeah, they are a funny bunch at the Jazz B club. There's a guy there that claims that he can get the "Jaco" tone with one of his american Js. I mentioned the 360 and he says it has nothing to do with the tone. When someone else mentioned "tone is in your fingers", he sh4t all over that as well. He claims the only way to get that sound is with PV64 pups. When I asked him to post some clips of his Jaco tone he said that his Am J bass is in Poland and he would when he travels there to retrieve it. I then asked if the only Jaco tone available now resides in Poland and he flew off the handle...strange folks..

I do like a Firebird but if there was ever a guitar that sounded less like it looked that is it and it sounds great don't get me wrong

Oh, I agree, it's a mindfunk! The looks and sound of the Fire vs. the Thunder 'birds are night and day. To me, the Thunderbird just sounds exactly like it looks. The Bird looks warm but sounds like a chainsaw... but that's exactly why it'll fit in just perfectly, visually and sonically, for the project that I'm spinning up

No, I'm the other guy! But John was there, actually played most of the set, as he was involved with Plan 9 from the beginning, right up to the Ham and Sam Jammin' record.
He's ace, good people and a great player.

Cool! I was 20 when Plan 9 broke up around 1990 but I was never able to catch a show, I only got to hear you guys on my friend's vinyl. He was a bassist and John was his hero it's all he'd talk about, lol! Small world
