Thunderbird Club

I made the pick comment because it one of those silly comments that come out about T Birds- ie that they are only good for banging away on with a pick at a million miles an hour. :)

I'm not much good with a pick and almost exclusively a finger player myself. I often find myself in awe of pick players, cos I just can't do it that quickly or precisely.

In the vein of our Queen @TBird1958, and courtesy of @Larry V, may I present to you the new car complete with Thunderbird decal with the ol' 2012 Gibson Thunderbird IV and photoshopped licence plate (internet safety first).

Happy weekend, everyone!
I like big headstocks, I can not lie.

And as far as the "Pick vs. Fingers" topic goes, I'm about half and half.
Although locally I'm fairly notorious for tossing guitar picks out to the girls in the audience at gigs...

All about THE SHOW, Baby! :)

Similarly, I had a real ego crusher back int he 80's.. we had just got our first batch of custom band picks, "Metal Angel" in silver on black picks. I couldn't wait for our next gig so I too could toss them at the girls.
First set of the gig, I wore out my first pick and tossed it into the audience, probably tossed a couple more before the end of the set. Finished the set, standing near the stage during the break, pretty chick comes
up and hands me one of my picks, saying, "You dropped this." :)

In a typical 3 set night we play about 60 songs, 58 of them require a pick, there's just no way around it. Even if I thought I could do them fingerstyle it wouldn't take but a minute or two of trying before two things were abruptly realized......#1 being that I don't have the finger strength to play a song that was obviously recorded originally with a pick all downstroked. I.E. "Rebel Yell" by Billy Idol - it just ain't gonna happen! #2 being tone, using the same example, you'd only be trying to fool yourself if think you're going to get the "tone" playing this song fingerstyle, the note attack/decay is all wrong. The demo for this song was recorded with a Jazz bass played finger style, as recorded on the album tho Steve Stevens ruled the studio and demanded it be played on a P bass with a pick.
Picks are tools to help you play a song correctly, so are your fingers
