I had to pay tax because there are GC stores in my state. Not sure how it would work for you in your situation.
I installed a push/pull volume pot that allowed me to choose between active and passive modes. You know, just in case the battery ever died on me. But it also made it a little less powerful in passive mode. Not much mind you. The pickups are super strong.
If you physically purchase it in Oregon you shouldn't have to pay tax. You probably had to pay the sales tax because you had it shipped to you. If you had it shipped to a store in a state without sales tax and picked it up there they shouldn't charge you tax.
I think about active/passive push/pull) good idea and while a spare battery always with me))

I think you are correct about the sales tax. Not sure how it works in a state with no sales tax but I assume it makes the purchase cheaper if you can do it in person in one of those states.
Exactly my thought process. I'll eat the time and cash to drive to Oregon if it means getting out of a couple hundred in sales taxes.
Just make sure that if you change the pot you buy the long shaft version. That's what you need for the arched top bodies.
Very nice! Did you have to rout the pickup cavity at all to get the Thunderbuckers to fit? I'm interested in those for my new 'bird.
Speaking of which, picked my new bird up this morning. A 1994 Thunderbird in excellent condition. All original at the moment. Ebony fretboard too. Pics to come!
70s greco thunderbird single pickup. Just finished recording an album and it was some of the best tone I have ever had.
Now I just need to find myself a non reverse and I'll be set.
Hell yea!
It's awesome through the reeves live but for recording I use a dr504 clone that I built. Something about the mids in the original hiwatt circuit. But the bottom end of the reeves is magnificent.
They work well together too!

My word, there are a lot of us!
On the subject of single p'up sweetspots........
I'm going to start on my non-reverse, single pickup build soon. What are the dimensions of "the spot" ( from either bridge or end of fretboard )?
