Thunderbird Club

Here's another Talkbass thread specifically devoted to the TBird VP. Might answer questions you have...
NBD Epiphone Thunderbird Vintage Pro

Equal amounts excited and anxious after reading that whole thread, as there is a lot of praise about the VP being one of the greatest basses out there, but needing some special case and/or strings to get it right. In the end, I doubt that I'll have much issue with either, but no one likes to read critical comments about the bass they just paid for but haven't played :)

Can't wait to hear it for myself, as all the positive comments make it sound like exactly what I'm looking for, and surely I will never GAS for another bass again. Haha, I can't even pretend to lie about it. I said the same thing about my old G&L L2K a year ago and I've since sold it. I'm super fickle, I guess.

*******UPDATE on my quest for Hipshot bridge bolts.***** Hipshot sent out a new set of bolts for me no questions asked. I appreciate everyone that gave feedback/advice or offered parts.

@JJR58 PM sent.

OK, though that's a bit concerning about it not fitting in the case. I bought the Vintage Pro from Music Go Round specifically because it came with a case at a good price. Are you saying that the bass they send me won't fit in the case that it comes with? If so, that's confusing, and I wonder what case would actually fit it.

And yeah, the different names of the Epi 'Birds have confused me more than once, as not only are there a bunch of variants, but even different sites (ex. GC/MF vs SW) have different names for them. Oh well, guess we'll see what happens when everything makes it here.

The case that was in the picture with the VP you purchased from Music-Go-Round looked like the proper case for the bass. You should be fine. The fit was a bit snug on mine at first but seems to have loosened up a bit since I bought it.

It's always better to leap before you look. I tried a 'Bird without knowing they had neck dive. And, once I figured out the strap button location, it wasn't a problem. I let that first one go, but the seed was planted. Or more accurately, 'Birds had chosen me and that's just what I play now. Same with the latest van. I bought a 2010 Transit Connect and then started hearing about all the blown up transmissions. Never mind that there's a zillion of them out there running around 200K miles on them and that this one has 23K miles on it. Worrying about it gets you nowhere, and whatever goes wrong probably would have gone wrong some other way anyhow.

I predict you’ll love it!
Mine came with coated black strings that look like DRs, and I put Rotosound RS66s on it without issues.

few hundred millivolts... AC

I'll add a little more. Output as low as 25mV could be amplified with little enough noise to be useful. A really hot pick up will put out several hundred mV. For testing purposes, put your multimeter on mV AC and look for a reading between 10 and 1000mV. If you have signal in that range, the p/u is working. You will need string(s) attached for the test.

:roflmao::roflmao:

It's a 6.0L LS based engine out of early 2000's GM 2500 trucks. This winter will more be just getting the engine in and getting it moving under it's own power, as this is the first time we'll be messing with an engine that has more than a handful of wires. If we get a chance this winter I'd like to change the camshaft. And will probably still use the 5 speed manual transmission for the first while.

Overall plans, good camshaft, sheet metal intake, built rotating assembly... oh ya... and twin turbos backed by a 6 speed manual. I'd like to have 800hp on a street tune with pump gas (high octane). Probably end up with around 700hp though.

Also going to modernize it a bit with a nice touch screen radio, eventually a digital retrofit gauge cluster, keyless start, few other things. But those will probably be for another year as money permits.
Jeez. Twin turbos? 600 hp? Are you going to turn it into a flying Bird?

Blast! Can only fish out one wire. Can’t see the other one.
