To be honest I’m probably never going to get another set of Roto’s. Didn’t like them, sound nor feel.

The difference between cats and dogs is kinda like the difference between Gibsons and Fenders. Both are cute and loveable, and can make great companions but one is just plain cool and the other is just plain.

One of those dogs is a cat. Also, I love the way the dogs look up afterwards and wag their tails like they discovered a fun new game. It reminds me of my time at University...

I'll never use Cobalt Rounds again. Polar opposite of what I like in a string. Tried them once and ripped them off with wire cutters within 5 minutes after the install. I now use them to file grooves in nuts, they cut thru brass like butter.

Try this...
Put neck volume at 25% on, bridge volume off, and tone off. Play a few bars and note the volume then turn the tone knob up to 50% on and note the volume, then turn the tone knob to 100% on and note the volume. If the bird is like my EB you'll hear significant volume changes with each tone knob adjustment.

Next do the same thing except set the neck volume on 100% and step through the different tone settings. You shouldn't hear any volume changes.

I know exactly what you mean with the 2013 EB. I have not noticed the same behavior from the 'Bird, but I have not been looking for it, either. I will check. Assuming my two functioning brain cells let me remember it.

dunno about where you live but Rotos are very cheap around here..

I hear you, I did my time with RotoSounds when I had a Rick 4001, switching to Ken Smiths was ear opening to say the very least.

I just could never get into Rotos (although I do like their tapewounds). While I have my favorites, I can use most any roundwound string. However, I've just never connected with Rotos rounds, even though they were the first manufactured roundwound.

There is nothing wrong with that. Just pointing out the different values that can be placed on items that are functionally interchangeable...

I like their tapes and flats. But, their rounds?
There was a set of Roto Pinks on my '87 330 Rick when I bought it; and the previous owner said he'd never used anything else. There were no discernable frets on it any more, either. And after paying beaucoup $$$'s for a re-fret? No Roto rounds on it, ever again. And,
they're not getting anywhere near my '73 4001, either... Flat wounds only, baby; flat wounds...

I'm glad to see your description of the (lack of) frets. I've had a theory that rounds might be rough on frets, but had no confirmation of such. I know they played hell with my fingers when I tried them[once]. Flats only on all of my basses. EB Cobalt flats on both 'Birds.
