Thunderbird Club

Hey all!
So, I just picked up a used Epi Classic Pro at GC. I didn't think to look at it while I was at the store, but once I got home, I saw these two cracks at the nut, where the headstock meets the neck. Is this simply a crack in the finish? Or something that could end up being serious?

Probably finish. Keep an eye on it though. I suspect you scored in a good way.

Your pieces and parts were excellent.
Thank you so much!

I will never say never, but I find that I enjoy building instruments with my design features at my own pace and putting them up for sale when they are ready.

Custom part orders require a level of financial risk and customer engagement that, for me, was not on par with the effort expended.
Honduras is gone, but the same or similar wood is now called genuine mahogany. I haven't worked with it yet, but I am intrigued by it.
Yes, also African mahogany or Khaya.

On a related note, it looks like Sound Guitar Works has a Mahogany Thunderbird body on their site:

Looks good but 6lbs/5oz... gonna be a Heavybird...

Home brew... I'm hoping Epoxy will garner me forgiveness in the world of physics and sound woodworking.

I'm not worrying about ghosting the Jazz rout yet, it's not in the way, and I don't believe it's critical. Also the rendering there of my fav cat, Sadie, which is placed perched playfully upon that pickup, will need to be moved to a new spot on the bass.

Anyhow, as I said, baby steps...
