And yet, people did! I remember as a kid, adults going to see serious movies there. The Unsinkable Molly Brown. Dr. Zhivago.Exactly! I saw C.H.U.D. (cannibalistic humanoid underground dwellers) at a drive in when it was new (80's) Not like you'd go to a drive-in to watch something serious...![]()
Anytime movies are sci-fi/fiction-based and set in a city - it's either NYC or LA, occasionally referred to as "Metropolis"![]()
Hey all!
So, I just picked up a used Epi Classic Pro at GC. I didn't think to look at it while I was at the store, but once I got home, I saw these two cracks at the nut, where the headstock meets the neck. Is this simply a crack in the finish? Or something that could end up being serious?

Mostly likely a stress crack (only) in the finish - in the close up it does show a bit of paint chipped at the edges where it meets the nut. Possibly the result of a less than delicate nut installation.
That's what I'm thinking as well. I've performed my own less than successful nut replacement once, and had similar issues. I guess it's hard to tell if it's a wood crack without pulling the paint off.
Stress cracks in the finish happen a lot and are only superficial. They happen at the neck pocket as well. Fingerboard/neck separation/cracks near the nut are also something that can appear but are also not usually catastrophic.
This is my '64 T-bird and it has been like this ever since I bought it in '78 -

Yup!(and an Xacto knife and Elmer's)Did you literally cut and paste that? With scissors?
I wouldn't worry about it. If the cracks get bigger once you start using the bass you'll know you have a repair to do. Next to nothing is great price - congrats!OK, cool. On first glance, I didn't think much of it, but was concerned that there were cracks on both sides. I got this one for practically nothing at GC, so I'm really hoping it works out.
The scale and angle are just right!Yup!(and an Xacto knife and Elmer's)
If you truly got it for next to nothing, the pickups in it are probably alone worth what you paid. Nice bass. And IMO they sound great. My guess is that the cracks are superficial; had it taken a good hit the neck likely would have snapped off. That's what I'm thinking as well. Thanks. That's why I hadda do it 'old school'. I found the pics, printed them, trimmed them some and thought I might have to reprint smaller or larger. Laid the Bird(insert 'ehem' here)on the Julie Newmar pic and WTH, it fits! The scale and angle are just right!
