There is no option in Canada to pay an additional fee for faster access; this is a feature of other socialized systems but is forbidden by the Canada Health Act. There are only 3 countries in which it is illegal to purchase healthcare; Canada, Cuba, and North Korea.

Indeed, be careful what you wish for; you may get it. Canadians tout the US system as being full of "administrative waste", but the reality of Canadian socialized medicine is that the healthcare 'system' expands adding health councils, levels of oversight, committees to 'study' new drugs and treatments, but never add front line services. In the never ending quest for "efficiencies" more administration is added without adding front line personnel and the assets they need to do their jobs.

I'm under single payer...it's called Medicare. It's cost me a total of $12 out of pocket on top of $300 a month premium in the seven plus I've had it. That includes three major operations, a separate five day stay in intensive care, numerous MRIs, biopsies/tests, CT scans, a tumor genetic analysis ($10K list) and specialists of many kinds. As far as drugs, generics cost $3 USD.

I didn't and don't beat up my body. I'm not expecting the type of non life threatening damage that results from doing that. I'll happily wait my turn for treatment necessary due to normal wear and tear.

People who have the money can go anywhere in the world to get the care they want to pay for. My inference from your past revelations is you're one of those. In your position I'd quit complaining about healthcare limitations (compared to what it costs the average self employed person your age in the USA) and go get me some.

I told my 37 year old son last month he's nuts if he goes on a planned skiing trip. It's an accident waiting to happen.

It's good sense talking, but it's hard to know another's situation from limited info.

Careful though, this may apply to socialized medicine in commonwealth countries (UK included). In France the waits are minimal in comparison. So much so, folks joke about it..

We run a dual system. Those with private health insurance get their choice of doctor and hospital. Medicare pays it schedule fee amount then you &/or your insurance pays ‘the gap’.

The hospitals are run by the states, Medicare by the federal govt. Fefersl govt also funds the states to a large degree.

I had a bad reaction to a wine a while back, probably over 12 months ago (it feels like that anyway). Got a referral through the public system to the local hospitals allergy clinic. Thought I’d see how it goes... last week I got a letter with my appointment date... 19 March 2019. I will probably have to go back to the GP for a new referral before I go in. I think it will have expired before my appointment.

Problem in my area is that we are a growth area, but services don’t keep up with the population growth.

Very true. But if I offered you the deal my same aged friends and I have with single payer would you take it?

Love those old chrome metal lettering gk cabs...I bought the sbx and wished I had tried the rbh. The ported version of the 410. Have you tried both?

I find it interesting that we’re grouped in with those countries in this regard. Is it not fair that everyone waits the same? I do believe that they should hire the individuals whose absence is causing the unacceptable delays in healthcare.... instead of useless administrators...

Sorta like "too many chiefs", etc.?

To many chiefs creates a problem of paralyzing politics, inaction, conflict but yes more important, no one to actually do the directed work.

It's all proof that we are not from this planet. We were sent here by an evil alien mischief maker whose intent was to create consternation and screw up the works. Move a few survey stakes and what would have been a perfectly sanely shaped road that would flow freely becomes an ancient evil rune that causes misery. This works at all levels. The same demonic power that moved the survey stakes moved a comma or two in every written form of human endeavor to make things work better and for the same purpose and result. This is proof. Now we are all in on the conspiracy. It's a CONSPIRACY!

I should be a lot sorer on account of the endless insults and injuries to various parts of my body. Elbows, ankles, knees, fingers, shoulders, lower back, neck... The fact that I crash well is also proof that I'm in on the conspiracy! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Yes....rants from PillO, insanity from you... this is turning just my way.... lolololololol

Except he won’t give me the economic rants I’ve been so curious to hear from him...lol I heard he used to go off more about economics.

I need to rant a little today... Please feel free to skip over this.

I have been in a fair bit of pain today. Probably because of the unstable weather - cold and damp always make things bad.

[rant]
My knee hurts. I injured it a number of times back when I was in the army; the result of running with a 40lb pack. When you are 25, you are immortal and your body will last for ever. That's OK, I have been dealing with that pain for a couple of decades.

Last winter (in fact 53 weeks ago this past saturday) I injured my shoulder skiing (yeah I know, existing bad knee and I manage to do a shoulder...) For those that are curious, I have a torn labrum (the joint capsule that holds the shoulder together). I had a surgical consult in May. As is required for protection from lawsuits, most conservative treatment was tried first. As expected, it failed. I opined to the sports medicine doc that I should have a Burkhart repair; he responded that the repair would be like sewing hamburger and that more likely I am headed to a replacement. Here we are 6 months later and I still don't have surgery scheduled. Here in Ontario, there is an 18 month wait-list for shoulder surgery. My surgeon is one of the top in the province, he has an 18 month wait for a consult and a further 18 month wait for surgery - yes, 3 years to get surgery. My shoulder has been really painful the last week.

And finally, the thumb of my fretting hand hurts. I may have injured it in the skiing accident and not noticed for a while because of the shoulder pain. But it could also be a separate injury/pathology. Currently, everyone is stumped by this one because the pain is not local to any of the usual suspects. An MRI was requisitioned at the beginning of December; I don't have an appointment for that yet. Until we see pictures, we won't know what it is nor what the repair is. It has been really painful since September.

Socialized medicine sucks. It takes what feels like forever to get a diagnosis and another eternity to get treatment. And that is with my connections in the healthcare establishment getting me faster access. Canada - one of three countries in which it is illegal to buy healthcare.
[/rant]
WOW!

And now back to 'Birds. I'll be removing the hardware and electronics from the '91 in order to send it to Bad Mojo for a coat of Burgundy Mist nitro. The goal is to get it shipped this weekend, but that will depend on a whole lot of cooperation by my schedule. It may or may not happen on Saturday, but it will happen soon. Then the turnaround is five or six weeks. I'm in no rush, so if he takes a little longer, that's fine. It won't be "relic" finish, but it will be non-UV stabilized, meaning the color will change over time and could weather check or do whatever all else the wood and the nitro decide they will collectively do. By the time my son inherits it, I hope it looks appropriately aged. If it doesn't, it will because I probably have the life expectancy of a fruit fly anyway.

I can imagine this bass will be stunning when finished.

I have, both work well. I prefer ports.

Very true. But if I offered you the deal my same aged friends and I have with single payer would you take it?

The issue with Medicare/single payer in the US is that there are currently 44 million collecting and 155 million paying for it. Of those 44 million collecting 3/4 of them paid into the system at some point. If you added an additional 280 million people to Medicare the costs would grow exponentially due to the the burden on the system and the bureaucratic inefficiency. It would be no cheaper than private insurance and without benefits that come with private insurance. Among those benefits include treatment on demand and no fixed price for treatment and more revenue for medical professionals. As much as we like to think that doctors are purely altruistic many are also attracted to the pay.

In the US there are way to many restrictions on the interstate sale of health insurance. Removing those restrictions and allowing companies to compete for your business would dramatically drive down costs. Buying health insurance should be as simple as buying any other insurance. There are auto/home/life insurance brokers everywhere competing for your business. Health insurance could be similar.

Totally free markets have proven time and again to benefit the consumer and the producer more than any other economic model. Our health care market is the result of manipulation by a too powerful central government.

Unfortunatelyt the Federal government has grown almost larger than the republic can support through taxation hence the ever growing debt. We don't have a tax problem as much as we have a government spending problem. The real question should be how do we put the genie back in the bottle and get government to a reasonable size. There are currently 800,000 furloughed Federal employees and the sky isn't falling.

People=Government so "people" are the problem..... ummm.... that's a tougher one to solve, unless of course they don't have health insurance!

Thanks man! On YouTube search for Mosaic Riddim. I’ve only done 1 gig with the band, so I’m in the ones that have been posted in the last week.
thanks I’ll be listening. I love reggae and used to sing for a band that did original music. Unfortunately I don’t have any recordings.

I certainly think it will. If it turns out too well I am concerned that it will have to be offered to our gracious Queen as tribute, only ransomable with good scotch. Hmmm, that doesn't sound so bad as long as I get some of the scotch.

More silliness:

When looking at Burgundy Mist car and guitar pics I happened across another Gibson colour - Sparkling Burgundy.

I like that.

That’s the idea but not the reality.

We don't have a tax problem as much as we have a government spending problem.

That’s what I’m saying. Not just the money spent on their seemingly useless employment but how these people, of whom there are too many, are paid too much, to make very poor spending choices.

Bigger still is the reality that these are not just mistakes, it’s made by design. Not the unfortunate result but the well thought out intention.

I will repeat.

You over pay me, I’ll over pay you and the tax payer will pay for it all. From governments to your local construction firms. A city of 250000 people paid 1 million dollars for a board room for the school board..... just one room!

Nearly a billion for a courthouse in a tricity area. A billion dollars? Really?

Depressions are engineered as part of the financial plan to rape the wealth of nations. Like clockwork.

This could be said more eloquently but thats even less likely to be heard. No one wants to hear this, never mind the world history that explains it.

Sorry I’ll leave it at that.

Really enjoyed KB5s post though.
