Coffee time.

So great being back in with the big sharks yesterday. A large black drum was interested in my brushes for a while, but as usual, the biggest annoyance was the sea turtle, and ultimately caused us to end our dive after 50 minutes. The sharks, contrary to what most people would think, are usually the least of anyone's safety concerns there. As much as I love the sharks, though, highlight for me was seeing Ray Charles hanging out near us. She's (yes) a huge 40+ year-old Roughtail stingray. She's been there since the '80s.

The show last night went well enough and I did end up playing direct to the board. That worked fine but I definitely will bring some kind of amp next time because it threw me off a bit only having the sound from the front. I felt like I lost the ability to track things if I got close to the drums and he was crashing thru some parts. I am sure it is something you would adjust to if going direct was a common occurrence but this was the only time I have dealt with this. The soundman plays bass and told me he plays there without an amp every Thurs. One of my friends in attendance is a bass player and he said the sound coming thru the PA was great. Anyhow, load in time was much easier without a rig but I guess I am old school and would prefer to have that amp blasting me from the back of the stage.

I wish I were in a position to take the GK off your hands, but really no need for anything like that. Sure you want to get rid of the Darkglass though? It can do more for you than just distortion.

No worries man, and understood. Don't have the need for the DG anymore now that i have that Ashly pre.
I've found my tone with the Mesa and that pre.

One day i hope to. But i'll just take the rack if need be, it's got wheels and a pull out handle. That i can deal with. This old battle horse has still got some life left.

Yeah, there is that. I can really use the dough right now though. Worse case scenario, i've got some friends that have stuff i could borrow. I'd figure it out. Not to concerned about it.

Sheeeesh! The places we play don't even have PA-except, maybe Muzak[or whatever it's called nowadays]

I gots to admit, after playing for 52+ years with an amp behind me, I'd be confozzled w/o it back there.

was there a monitor mixer onstage? sometimes when going through the FOH (specially if far) the latency becomes something you have to adjust to..

yeah most big cities are like that, 6 or more bands in 4 hours makes folks jump on and off stage a la Eddie Vedder since many of these clubs don't have a back entrance/exit...

Even a pretty small cab and little 200w Class-D amp would be the business, just to keep your tracking, as you say, sharp. Lol, here I am now giving tjis advice! But when I show up as instructed for a gig, I have to hope the sound person has these things figured into the night's plan...
