Yep, small band stuff, and why it's called "VocalMaster", and not "BandMaster", I guess.

The Miami Beach*hotel I played in during the 90s had one as the house PA. With a bunch of 8" speakers in the ceiling plus the 2 columns on the corners of the stage. Sounded really good.

Yep. And with the 'wiring' job from the 70s, it would cut out and sputter on a moment's notice. Then they'd look at us as if we had something to do with 25+y/o wiring, connectors, etc. We used one of my PA speakers(pic) under the baby grand to "reinforce" the vocals-more sound came outta it than all the house speakers combined.

was there a monitor mixer onstage? sometimes when going through the FOH (specially if far) the latency becomes something you have to adjust to..

No mixer on stage. Sound guy ran all settings with an iPad or tablet of some sort. He sat on stage with us adjusting settings until everyone was happy. I'm sure he adjusted settings as needed once we started playing as I saw him do that with other bands.

Even a pretty small cab and little 200w Class-D amp would be the business, just to keep your tracking, as you say, sharp. Lol, here I am now giving tjis advice! But when I show up as instructed for a gig, I have to hope the sound person has these things figured into the night's plan...

That is definitely something to consider for down the road, should I encounter this situation again. It is funny coming from the guy with 16 tons of cabinets. Lol

The SVT212AV cab has a 'prestige' badge, but was bought because it is 4Ω, wasn't stupid expensive, there aren't a lot of accessible 212 choices ... and it actually sounds good. Traynor is maybe like Peavey? Although unlike Peavey, most people have never even heard of.

Thunderbirds? I must be plain old perverse. I'll admit to disliking the poly finishes on the modern Epiphones, otherwise Gibson, Epi, Orville, Greco, boutique builders -- they're all Birds and if they play well and sound good, what more can you ask for? The same goes for a Squier, as long as it doesn't have a tort scratchplate (I'll 'tort nazi' you, Mark @dukeorock!) and it plays well, go for it. In fact I'd deliberately rock a Squier just to piss people off.

You can borrow the chrome Squier badge I bought for just that purpose. You have to give it back though. Attaching it strategically for that effect is something I need to do periodically. It has graced the EB2 headstock at times, when a nameless individual was a little too impressed with a vintage guitar he had.

He could have sent worse pictures I suppose, but tort... Maybe not.

I’ve read most of William Gibson’s books, but have been think of revisiting the early ones again. Mona Lisa Overdrive, Neuromancer, Burning Chrome, etc. Started Idoru this morning, but work keeps messing up my reading time :/

I've always been a digital bass player. Playing analog would be extremely difficult, if not impossible.

You need a bow for that purpose.

surprised these days don't ask for flameproofing, UL and Osha certificates for gear being carried in.....
we have to buy insurance for gigs with my corporate outfit...all negotiated into the contract.....a far cry from our FLA union cards of the 80s...

When I was first looking at cabs, the Mod made me promise it wouldn't be anything Markbass, as it would frighten his shoes.

The SVT212AV was double the size he expected, but he got over it after a few days.

Guitar/steel player on these sessions is Paul Neihaus (Lambchop, Calexico, Prayer Flags, etc). Loaned him my old dano bass that I never use as a bass, but it makes for a great baritone lead thing. A guitar player named Deke Dickerson turned me on to that ‘trick.’

I do not care how good Markbass equipment sounds or doesn't sound. It is ugly and I am shallow. Full stop. Cars and motorcycles should be yellow. Maybe even my van eventually. Not driver cones or dust caps. And that logo is so ugly that seagulls won't crap on it.

IDK what the average pay is out your way*, but it's less here than I used to get in the 70s-80s. We aren't in it for the money but we're also not gonna schlep bass, 2 guitars, attendant amps, PA(we've gone as small as possible-2 of the Bose L1's)and drums plus mics and stands for nothing. And there's the distance, which isn't the venue's problem, but it is ours-minimum 3 vehicles.
