We know "Freebird" and will play it when someone's trying to be 'funny', but the last time we were asked, we were already packing up-PA off, amps off, axes on stands-and the guy offers us $5(!)to play it. We said we couldn't-local noise ordinance, have to shut down at ten*(not true). If everything was still on we mighta done it, but no. BTW, all evening I [I do the 'tween songs B.S.] said that we accept requests; this guy waited 'til we'd said "good night"

I've gotten used to it, but only because I was given a pair of top of the line Beats. I was going to save up for some good in-ears, but the Beats work great. (Studio3 wireless, though I currently have to play them wired). When I want to get the sound and feel of the house, I pull one ear off. Typically the ear farthest from the drums.
But a year down that road, I still miss feeling the bass onstage.
Whatever. You're old when you give up and don't even try to get out and play.
As if I needed another reason to love you people.

I tried looking in the dedicated Sterling threads for an answer to this question, but couldn't find an answer. Since there's a whole lot of bass knowledge in this group, I'm confident somebody here can he'p. So here's the issue: I have a Sterling SUB Ray 4 that I use in the current cover band. I like the active electronics, save one issue: the pots are bottom of the line, specifically the treble and bass controls. Their center detents are almost non-existent. I want to replace them, keeping the preamp, which will mean singer/guitarist Jay will have some soldering to do (he doesn't know that yet, but I'll burn one bridge at a time on this project). Is there anything particular I need to know in purchasing new pots, or can the active circuit boards be added to any pot? I don't even know how to play them, much less work on them. LOL!

Best single 12 combo I have ever heard was a markbass. It's on my short list of stuff to buy when I get around to it.
Of course if you're going for the coyote ugly trifecta you need to pair that markbass head and cab with a black and yellow Dano longhorn. Looking at the whole outfit would probably make people queezy until they heard it, I'm sure it would turn a few heads. I'd rock it!

The active circuit boards will work with any pot, but for best results you should use the same value and type of pot (i.e. Linear or audio taper).
CTS pots are nice full size replacements or you could go with the smaller alpha pots if your control cavity is tight. Either brand is good.
Also pay attention to the shaft length and make sure you get pots that are made for a plate mount vs through body mount which has longer shafts (IIRC the Sterling controls are plate mounted similar to the Stingray).
Lastly, the Sterling might have PCB mounted pots (my SUB Stingray did). If so, not a problem, you will either have to find pots wth PCB blade connections to mount on the board or just do what I did and clip the original pots off the board up near the pot body (leaving about a quarter inch of blade still attached to the board) then just solider wires from the blades to the eyelets of the new pots.
Edit: don't forget to pay attention to the knob end of the shaft on your existing pots. You'll want the same type of knob end (smooth, coarse spline, fine spline, split shaft, solid shaft...) or your old knobs might not fit the new shafts.

Until a week or two ago when someone posted a video here, I had never heard Silversun Pickups, which is kind of appalling. Since then, about every other day someone has posted a link to one of their videos, across a broad spectrum of internet sources. I think they're my favorite new (as if) band. And some of their videos are just plain fun. And Nikki plays those sexy, sexy basses.

I don't yell Freebird often, but when I do, it is situations in which is more or less impossible. Last one was solo acoustic guitar player (who seemed amused, but also was playing for tips, so why didn't he at least make an attempt?).
Thanks, it just requires that you hurl yourself down a slippery hill with reckless abandon and navigate around a few flags. The more reckless you are, the better your time.
