Thunderbird Club

The more you know...
easter.jpg

in 2014 I sold this Jackson tbird never thinking I would find another collector selling one because they just never made enough of them....
( the blue one is an Epi body parts bass )

and THEN out of the blue a guy I know who I have bought from before asks me to buy this even rarer Charvel version.
so it looks like I will be back in the Tbird club for a little while longer
The blue one is also very cool.

T’Bird club for a little while longer...?

Around here ‘you can check out any time you like
but you can never leave

I get that "Mustang Sally", "Old Time R&R"(2 songs I sing in our group),etc, may be boring-or whatever-but if that's what the people paying the band wanna hear, that's what we do.
Nothing personal, but I would hack my own arm off with a plastic spork before I would play Mustang Sally. I play a TBird for Gods sake, I've got an image to uphold!

We always say that we accept requests and if we know 'em we'll play 'em. I've not kept track but I think the most often requested song is "Old Time R&R"*. Friday night we played a Country Club. We got a request for "Over The Rainbow"-we played it. Kept the people there(spending $)for another set. Made the club manager happy.
We did have some wise@$$ ask for "Edmund Fitzgerald". Sorry.:rollno:

*NOT because they've heard me sing it

I can't at the moment think of a song I wouldn't play-assuming we could with our instrumentation. It would prolly be nice to only play what I wanted to play, but we aren't in the position to tell prospective jobs "this is what we do, take it or leave it". They'd leave it and we'd be home watching The Weather Channel. I'm happy for anyone out there who gets to play what they want to. That's not the situation around here.

We have reduced attending the “Open Door” kitchen that we started on because it just wasn’t worthwhile. The patrons were not interested, they just wanted to get in and get a feed, and get out again. There was also not enough room, we would all have to shuffle across whenever a patron wasn’t to get to the toilets. The exception is Christmas. We intend to keep doing Christmas songs there.

The other places we do are local (or near local) Nursing Homes. Not retirement villages but the nursing homes that people end up in when they can no longer look after themselves. We don’t charge, purely a donation of time and efforts from us.
We have a bit of trouble picking songs but our thing is to pick songs we think they will enjoy rather than what we want to do. I’m sure we get it wrong at times but we try to hit the mark.
We do get asked back, and it seems we may add another place to our list soon.

I have an unwritten rule that we all have 1 veto on a song going into our list. For example one of our gents has some philosophical issue with “don’t worry, be happy’. I don’t understand it but there ware plenty of songs to choose from.

Very few requests although we did have one lady keep calling for Slim Dusty. Luckily enough we did have Pub with No Beer in the set. Otherwise we would struggle. About the only song we can pull off with no Music/lyric sheets is Long Way to Tipperary. :D and yes, we have had to dust it off as a special.

Sweet. But that parts bass is GORGEOUS!

Used my white Bicentennial today and started tinkering more the with blend of PUs. Normally I leave them both full on, but in tinkering I really noticed how much lower the volume is on the bridge PU than the neck. I know there is going to be a noticeable difference but I would say by the time I turn the neck up about "4" it's as loud as the bridge, maybe more so. The PU volume difference is not that wide with my '64. It doesn't sound bad, I was just a little surprised when I got to really fooling with the volumes on them and am hoping the bridge isn't degrading on me. I'll keep an eye on it, but is there anything I should be concerned about?

If it sounds good don’t worry about it.

I do the vocals on Money for the cover band. We do not do Edmund Fitzgerald. There is a limit.

I find it strange that so many out in GP can't understand that some of the keys to success are:
Find out what people want and then give it to them.
Do what the boss asks.

The Headstones just released a cover of that. Now my brother and I are learning it (it is REALLY easy). I still hate it.

Rule number bleen - play it on a 'Bird and kick its butt.

The odd thing is that I have a good time playing songs I do not like listening to. Playing and listening are different.

This depends primarily on the pickups, the circuit, and the pickup heights. If you want more bridge volume, try raising that pickup.
But I wouldn't be concerned about anything.

After I changed the neck on the JAEbird, I plugged it into the YBA200 to check everything was alright. It was really weedy, oh no, is the amp sick? last thing I need, etc, etc.

Then I looked down and the DGVU was still engaged from the other day when I did the Cat Tail demo*. Click! Ahhhhhhhhhh.....

* why the DGVU sounds good direct into the computer and terrible in front of the YBA200 is a mystery I'm uninterested in solving.
Mostly, it is just the wireless through the DI. When it is time to raise eyebrows, then I kick on flange and/or octaver. The rest is git-box toys.

We just need to hunt you down ant steal your toys. Just sayin'.

Agree, playing and singing. Eg I have a good time with Que Sera Sera. Who’da thunk it?

Plus buum buum root and fifth country songs. Actually enjoy it a lot.

My teenage self is in despair...

Your band has a very defined personality, it's really, very much a show. You all are very forward and "brave" in your posturing, and you're good players. It seems like a good band, the entertainment factor is high, and you're accepted for what you've got to offer. You don't need to do requests.
I'd love to catch one of your gigs.

Thank you for the kind words, Roger. :)

Didn't know you had let your TBX go, I'm playing mine quite a bit of late and am loving it more than ever, is the Charvel similar? How many did they produce?

I have to say that I rather liked this take it, I probably didn't have to hear the original as many times as you so it still retains it's goodness for me, unlike the entire works of Led Zep or Pink Floyd, which to this day are impossible to escape from here.

How could anyone not like a song in Dorian mode?

Oh and that video is cinematic.

I could not agree more :)
