Well, I did it. I went down to Emerald City Guitars to see the '64 they have....It was a little too intimidating to play - $10K? Um, I'm not going to drop it... The cash OR the bass. Is it worth that much money? I don't know, but it's pretty clear why those are in demand and so expensive these days. It's not just because they are old.

$10,000÷20=500/yr. Doesn't leak oil/require license plates and a good bet to always be worth at least as much as you paid if you tire of it or need to sell. Also less likely to send you to the hospital.
Well worth $1.50 a day. Two are even better. Buy now, they won't be cheaper tomorrow.

I have around $600 in my '64 IV (with neck repair prior to me) which I got about '81-'82. Good investment? Gold would have been better but doesn't sound as good and isn't fun to play! But chicks dig both!

Once, @158K. It's at 256K now, no problems except that I'm going to replace the windshield. It's not fast and is about as pretty as a steel wheeled roller skate, but it really can haul gear well - or paving stones for a backyard landscape project. Easily the best car I've ever owned.
Good for a road trip too.
