Thunderbird Club

I have an EpiBird NR 5er-with the P/J setup. Sounds better than expected esp. w/ EB Cobalt Flats, so I'd bet the 4 string would sound equally good.
Just too far out there and I have no upcoming trips taking me anywhere close. But it is intriguing. Anyway, there will be an Epi NR announced at summer NAMM. I’m willing it. It will be my next bass.

I'm sure it would.
I thought about picking it up along with an Embassy Bass that's being parted out, and dropping the Embassy Probucker pups and the Embassy two piece bridge in it to make a NR version of he Eppi VP, all for under $500.

The only thing holding me back is that I just purchased this last week...

I really don't have room for anything new without offing something else (probably Fender related) first.
That is stunning. Congrats.

Couldn’t live without my iPad. It’s my gateway to everyone here. And Spotify. I only use a computer for work. I have a phone because I have to; I hate talking on it and all the stupid text messages. But I travel all the time for work and it makes things so much easier. Haven’t looked at a paper map in years. But I miss the days of snail mail to communicate. Now all I get is junk and bills. I was an early adopter going back to CPM. These days I’m a reluctant techie.

Technically I don't consider myself a luddite as I'm not against progress, I just choose to not be part of certain aspects of it as a socio-political statement. To begin with I don't want to be connected 24-7, I'm not a doctor or a drug-dealer. When driving and as a cyclist/motorcyclist, I'm constantly irritated by drivers texting and not giving a s_it doing so. It's part of the general disregard people have for their 'fellow man' - "yah, I'm texting while driving and if you don't like it, F-you" When walking in a crowd of people, I'm one of the few who isn't staring into their iPhone. Our 30-something keyboardist/singer who I am so happy to have in our band might as well have her iPhone superglued to her hand. At rehearsal, any brief moment between songs - the phone is being checked. And don't get me started on "tech culture" as I am surrounded by it in the Bay Area. Too many aspects I could vent about. To avoid that and refer to your last 'note' - I agree with you about missing snail-mail. I love writing and used to send postcards and letters all the time. I'd turn the white envelop into a complex multi-colour picture, where the address would be part of the cartoon. I bet mail-delivery people really enjoyed them.

I plug in where I need to - and leave the vacuous world of tech to those with their iPhone grafted to their hand.

Amen.

How have I loved this song since the Mountain version was released without having heard this? I just listened to the version off _Theme_, too. Completely different.
TfaIW and Nantucket Sleighride have long been two of my absolute favorite sogs by anyone on the planet.

I'm glad to have opened that door for you Miles. As Cream and Mountain were intertwined by Felix Pappalardi - the original song was written by the guy who wrote with Jack Bruce. Songs For a Tailor is a great JB LP that was a staple for me.

You've all seen my (fuzzy) pics. This is what they're taken with-it's all I need. And I don't text.

Same phone I have (seriously) I don't have a problem with a mobile phone, especially as a cyclist. If I forget to bring it on a ride I feel very vulnerable.

I have been playing my different basses and haven’t quite settled in yet. Originally I had a 5 string signature fretless, and needed a backup, so I bought the Thunderbird. Now I’ve acquired a Squier Jazz Bass.

They all play so differently. I’ve been putting in extra time with the new bird just because it’s such a radical departure from the light touch of my fretless. I am curious if any of you have experimented with TI flats on a Thunderbird. I like the lighter tension on the fretless, and was thinking that may be a good direction. When I had the bird setup I had them throw on DiAddario flats, and they have extremely tight tension. I love the sound, but my fingers are getting one hell of a workout....

Right there with ya brother!
I don't care if it's a Gibby or an Eppi, if it's an NR street priced at $1500 or less I'm all in.

I have TI Jazz Flats on a couple of my basses but not any Thunderbirds. I have used flats (Cobalts) and tapes and nickel round wounds with great success on TBirds. Can't think of any reason why TI Jazz Flats would be any less likely to delight. If you have a light touch and want a premium grade fast string, TI Jazz Flats would be an excellent choice. The only complaint I've ever heard about the TIs (besides cost) is they can have a floppy feeling to some players, I never noticed that.

They are on my fretless and I love them. They last practically forever, so I may just have to give them a go.

Just my personal experience with TI's, (like that old folklore about neck dive) Not floppy at all. I have a set that just might go on the Bird with CBuckers. Thing is, i really want to put them on one of those, unmentionable basses.
